Default tire size door sticker and smog

I went to go get my 2000 r/t smogged the other day and the smog tech pulls open my door and looks at the sticker and refused to do it cause I have modified the tire size.
What gets me is my door sticker says 225/55/17 so WTF?
Why would the factory put 225 size tires on a 9" wide wheel?
I ended up going to another shop and passing with flying colors but that door sticker is bugging me now, I wonder if I am going to go through this again in 2 years, I really am hating california.

My door sticker says the same tire size. I have heard some of them even have the 15" size printed on them.

What in the hell would tire size have to do with smog int he first place? And the factory door jam stickers on the '99-'00 R/Ts are notoriously wrong. Tell him to do some actual work and look it up.

That's a first !!!! Since when does having modified wheels or aftermarket wheels have anything to do with smog... I might live in Texas now but for 20 years I never once heard that !!! Hell knowing California it just might be a new law LOL !!! No worse then changing your shocks to aftermarket ones is actually modified suspension which is a big no-no in Cali but that law hasn't been enforced in years

Id take it to a different shop. That guy is a moron and didnt feel like working that day. My truck passes with flying colors and they have never looked at the door jamb sticker.

Both of my 2000 also say stock tire is 225/55/17. When I bought my red one off a dealer they put that tire size on the front to replace the bald tires and the almost look stretched.
