    Default External Transmission Line Pressure Adjustment

    I modified my A518, 46RE transmission case so I can adjust the line pressure without dropping the transmission pan. This will be very quick, easy, and clean when adjusting line pressure.



    Followed these instructions: http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/auto/38.html The dimensions indicated to locate the access port/plug are spot on.

    I'm not sure what "T.I.A." represents but yes, it's merely an access port for ease of adjustment. Prior to this I had to modify an allen wrench (shorten) to get the wrench on between the case and the PR screw, as well as drain the fluid, drop the pan, make the adjustment, reinstall the pan, and refill the fluid, each time I tested a new adjustment. Now I will just have to remove the plug, insert an allen wrench into the port and PR screw, make an adjustment, teflon tape the plug, and reinstall it.

    I didn't look clearances on my truck yet. Can this mod be done with the trans in the truck?

    Yes this mod can be done with your transmission. But unfortunately it can’t be done in the truck or without proper equipment. There are two ways to do it as far as I know; the method I used and the method shown in Munroe’s book: Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook. Since the center of the hole is basically on the edge of the flange of the transmission case, you can’t just drill it because the drill will walk off center. You have to first plunge cut it with an end-mill requiring a milling machine and very large angle-plate in which to hold the case rigid during the machining operation. This lets you to take that portion of the case down to a relatively flat surface allowing you to then use a drill for the final hole. A typical drill press will flex too much for this operation. The method described in Munroe’s book requires welding in additional aluminum in which to create a flat land for ease of drilling and ample thread engagement.
