Default User's 2001 RT build thread (update 12/29/2014) PROJECT ENDED

Well as some of you might know, the 2000 Bright White RC R/T i had burnt down due to an injector o-ring failure, i lost everything and the only thing i was able to salvage from it was a few parts. All my work over 3 years to the truck went up in flames in less then 5 min right in front of me... here are some BEFORE and AFTER photos when i first got the 2000. After these photos ill post up what i have done to the 2001 Bright Silver Metallic RC R/T i picked up.

    --------------------------------------------

Now here are some photos of the progress with the new 2001 Bright Silver Metallic RC R/T next to the Burnt up 2000 Bright White RC R/T.

    ---------------------------------------------

    ---------------------------------------------

Ok... So here are the photos of the New 2001 when i got her, notice the dumbo folding mirrors, and nasty ass engine bay, its completely stock besides the CAI, Spintech Cat Back Setup, SS Grill inserts, and Tint. Everything else is un touched (i might have left out some shit)

The trucks suspension was SHOT to hell... I bought all new balljoints, end links, tie rod ends, just so i could drive the thing. The kid drove it to TN and Back to TX and the balljoints look like they where about to go after one more bump. It was BAD, and the tranny is pure slush at WOT.. i cant even race it, i was going to do a before and after i do all the mods, but i cant even shift out of 1st, i have to let the RPMS drop from 5200 to 3900 then shift to 2nd then to 3rd... not even worth it.

Notice the Nasty ass engine bay.. i fixed that asap.

    ---------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------

Some more photos after i deleted some shit from the bay, and cleaned it up, and installed the lower SS inserts to match the top, i just so happened to have a lower set laying in the garage. Lucky me! I also installed the clear tails i had on my 2000 on this one, they seem to look better on the silver one IMHO.

    --------------------------------------------

    ---------------------------------------------------

    CONTINUED Look at next post.....

Then i installed the MSD 6A shit i had laying around in the garage and cleaned up the bay a little more, deleted heat shields, did a nice tune up on it, some 8mm taylors, and installed a Moroso billet overflow tank, and tossed that Ugly ass FIPK intake system in the trash, replaced the Pulleys and installed a High Flow Water Pump and a 180thermo, also put on the SCT Tune from Sean. 2001 is pretty cool he can control the stock fan to work with the 180 thermo better.

    -------------------------------------------------

    -------------------------------------------------

Here is when i installed the new Headlights, 6000k HID headlights, and foglights, and replaced the blown ass speakers that where in the cab, the front ones only worked, so i got a set of type S component Alpines for the front and a set of type S coaxial for the rear and a 4channel Alpine amp to power all them. Big improvement, i need my music. I also traded off the Dumbo Folding Side Mirrors for a set of the Sport ones.. looks much better, ill have them painted to match soon.

    -------------------------------------------------

And last but not least, here is the photos of all the parts i have waiting to go on the truck, im waiting to save up some more money to have everything, Assembled (heads) powdercoated, and cleaned up. Im having the intake manifold coated Silver along with all the brackets and linkage shit, the Mopar Air hat, and Mopar Valve Covers will be a Mid Blue to match the Color Theme im going for... Silver/Blue, and Black/Blue (interior)

That's all i have as of right now, i just picked up a Checkmate bed cover, for the bed ill be installing soon and having painted, along with the side mirrors and a few other things.

    ---------------------------------------------

    CONTINUED... See next post...

I do have a question: Did you paint the stock mirrors on the white one? Any special paint if you did?

Thank and keep up the pictures and work!

I had a guy that works at a paint shop do them for me "out the back door" i did my door handles and side mirrors, he sanded down the rough shit on the mirror (since they are textured from factory) and filled in the gap right before the lens and painted them. They where smooth, and looked good, normal paint i guess.

Kinda OT but just out of curiosity, I see that DJM stuff comes with new rear bump stops. In the instructions, do they tell you to drill a new hole in the frame for them or can you use the existing hole for them? I ask because I still have the stock rear bumpstops (cut) and want to get new universal pancake style stops for the back. I'm wondering if I need to drill a new hole for them because the existing hole for the stock bump stops appears to be slightly off center of the axle. Thanks

Yes you have to drill to mount the new bumpstops. I read the instructions last night. A lot of work to install that rear hanger kit... INSTALL PARTY!

Some updates, parts have not came back from painter yet. Should have them soon, although in the meantime ill be installing C-Notches in the frame for the 4" Shackle and Hanger setup for the rear.

I have taken the bed off, and took off some un-needed parts and shields, maybe another 5-10lbs of weight shredded off. Not to bad.

For now thats all im going to do, when i install the hangers and shackles ill be taking the bed off again, and cutting off a lot of excess things, like the old exhaust hangers, spare tire holder, and some other things should be good for another 20-30lbs.

Also going to sand down and coat the frame and anything else, with rust resistant stuff.

O yeah i forgot, my radiator took a shit on me 2 days ago, had to drop 400$ to get it fixed, 200 for radiator, 100$ for new upper lower hoses, and 60$ in coolant... so that set me back a little, that was my funds to have my parts powder coated.

Here are some photos of the progress so far.

I have pancakes mounted in the rear holes and they seem to work just fine. That's with 2" hangers and hotchkis leafs.

Nope, i did to when i saw him welding, almost poked him in the back. He has been welding and building tube chassis, 4-links, air bag setups, ect for well over 20+ years, i think he said he started when he was 10 and didn't start doing it professional till about 17 or 18 or somthing. He was in some magazine before i was into trucks he was telling me about it, all i remember is somthing about a "Spawn Truck" he built.

I talked to him and he is going to be doing the rest of my work on my truck that requires welding and suspension work. Im friends with a guy good friends with him. Its good to have friends saves a lot of money.

Got the truck dynod today so i could see what its like stock and whats it like when i get everything installed and tuned.

Here is the video and photo of the dyno sheet, for the lazy people.

    Type of Dyno: Dynojet
    Humidity: 21%
    Tempature: 97F
    Max RWHP: 220hp
    Max RWTQ: 307lbs

Not bad for stock and with 125,000 miles on it.
