    Default Dakota R/T vs. Lightning

So my buddy has had a 2004 Ford lightning for about the same time I've had my 2002 RT RC for. He's always talking up his truck and I would really like to be able to walk it on any given day, however I'm stock as of now. He got his for 13,500 with like 38k on it and I got mine for 5800. So I always tell him Greg, just give me 7700 and its a wrap. So how much do you think it would take me to beat him? because I think it would take less. Right now all he has is full exhaust. I plan on start buying some mods soon as I get some money and what do you think would put me on the right path to running with him. I think he runs high 13's and a 5.2 0-60.

I raced a 95 model and smoked it with minor mods on my dak BUT if he would have caught traction then im sure he would have gotten me.I believe in 95 they were only 240 horsepower.

The Gen I lightnings were a 351 with 302 heads (or vice versa). They are shit ton heavier than an R/T. So you should beat them fairly easily if you are both stock.

The Gen II's are a different story vs an R/T. It's gonna take a few bucks to get to beat one. lol

    Good luck though!

Just put on a set of Bilstein shocks and a good set of sticky tires and take him to the autocross track. You'll spank his ass no problem.

Just add a fartcan muffler and some stick on graphics and he will be scared away. Oh and make sure to get a chrome turbo emblem from autozoo that will make it haul ass.

2.02 Heads with light Port work - 1200
    236 or a 224 Cam - 350
    4bbl M1 or 2bbl - 400
    Hardened Pushrods - 130
    Headers - 800
    GOOD 3" true dual exhaust - 800
    58mm TB or 52x55 F&B - 450
    SCT with a good tune - 350
    Wideband O2 Sensor - 500
    3200 Stall Converter - 600
    Shift kit - 300 (MSaine)
    Slicks - 500 (w/Wheels)
    Roller Rockers - 300
    14x3 Air intake - 100

    Total 6880

Or buy mine, sell yours and add a TB, stall converter, shift kit and you are in the 12's

Leaves a few dollars for gaskets and fluids. Would be a solid 12 second truck.

i don't generally have a problem with any i meet on the street. i fare a bit worse when i meet them on the track but i have suprised many, many lightnings thru the traps. they are by far my favorite race.

heads, cam, intake, exhaust & good tires will get you close. Toss a 100 shot on to seal the deal.

Boltons with a power adder and you shouldn't have any problems with a GenII Lightning. Or a well put together heads/cam setup with the right boltons and you'll be in the 12's. It's fun beating up on Lightnings.

This was my 11.6 to his 12.6

DO NOT make fun of mah fart can. It means srs bsns.

To the OP, bolt-ons plus 150 shot will make a damn good race the cheapest possible way

Haven't had a shot at a newer lightning yet at the track. Ofcourse all the gen ll's down here are built to the hilt. You have to be in the mid to low 11's to compete with them. I ran against a old gen I last time at the track, I sware he was turboed. Cause earlier in the day saw him do a burn out and heard compressor surge. Either way I beat him by 3 truck lengths...
