    Default Race batteries/setup

My Optima redtop is starting to go south again. This battery is 2 years old, and the third Optima product I have had in the truck over 5 yrs. I am thinking of trying one of those light weight drag race batteries. I don't drive the truck much so I can pop it out or put a trickle charger on it when not using. Plus would save weight on the front end. Also has anyone put a battery in the back passenger compartment of the CC? Is it against NHRA/IHRA rules to do so? I was thinking of buying a sealed plastic box and mounting to the floor and a vent to the outside. Though I wont go through all that work if its not legal. So anyone know? Also what brand of racing battery are some running on here?

I have an Odyssey PC680, shaves 30lbs over the stock battery.

Need to buy the terminals for it too:

I have a regular battery in it now, but will probably put the Odyssey back in. Nice thing about them is they're drycell batteries, so you can mount them on their side if you want.

That's the same bad boy I was eyeing on their website.. Good deal and no biggie on the different terminals. I still wonder if mounting inside the truck with a sealed/vented box is NHRA legal.

I think if it's inside the vehicle it has to be in a metal box, I'd have to find my rulebook to check that tho.

    According to my 2008 rulebook:

"Batteries may not be relocated into the driver or passenger compartments".

Fack! Ok no biggie I will just put it on the passenger side under the bed. Make up a metal cradle and hang it down under there. Then install a acess door in the bed of the truck to get to it. Good thing my exhaust dumps at the back of the cab lol. Thanx again for the info Dave.

Guys, after reading about all the chargine issues from relocating the battery for 3 years....I just don't see the benefit in the end.

Ok, so you move some weight to the back, but if you use a ~15lb battery then buy big ass heavy 00 cable to relocate that weight without having a charging issue...What's the net gain? 10 maybe 15 pounds over the rear. Unreliability?

I'd just put the dry cell up front in the stock location. If I was to do anything, I think I'd do like I've seen on some new car (can't remember make) but put it up against the firewall. Most gains off the front are more apparent from over the wheels, forward.

i did it to get rid of shit under the hood. this winter i'm moving the PDC to under the back seat.... but you're 100% right. any gains are negated by the 20lbs of added cable weight. that shit aint light by any stretch, lol.

I see why it took so long, but those pictures in the other thread were sexy! Nice job, and you have one of the few trucks I would love to see in person some day.
