Thread: 2000 Dakota R/T resurrection

    Default 2000 Dakota R/T resurrection

    Hey all,

i bought this 2000 Dakota R/T off craigslist for $4300... more than i would've liked to pay but im ok with it

it had been sitting for a while

205k miles. has a "built" transmissions, i can tell it has a shift kit so i'm assuming it was rebuilt and "built" who knows tho.

    engine runs good

everything on it is sloppy, front end clunks and rear end clunks. DJM 2" lowering kit, bushing are all bad

has some bad clear coat on roof hood and part of the drivers side fender. going to repaint those areas

    exhaust had holes in it

after i get it looking good i want to get the replica SRT10 wheels. maybe a custom turbo kit.

    and basically just cruise it

i like to find cool cars/trucks and fix them up drive around for a while and sell

    interior is pretty nice

the drivers side lower a arm ball joint was wasted so bad, the wheel was sitting cockeyed

i had to call DJM to figure out what ball joint to get, i also bought a upper ball joint because i bashed the shit out of it trying to get it apart

sway bar end links were wasted like always, had to sawzall it off

i had to let the rotor and caliber sit on a peice of wood the entire time, cause one of the caliper bolts is rounded off lol... when i need to i'll weld a bolt onto it

the DJM a arm bushings need replaced, one is wasted and one seems decent. i didn't replace it right away i ordered a new bushing kit, i'm hoping i can just unbolt it and use floor jack to put the new ones in

it drives pretty well, it needs aligned, but i'm not going to take it anywhere until i get the bushings replaced, and check the passenger side... the front end clunks are gone though, the rear still clunks. while i was looking at the exhaust i could see that the rear sway bar end links are toast and the bushings in the rear shocks are toast
so i ordered some shocks and end links hopfully that will get rid of the rear end clunk over bumps

this is the most flattering angle, doesn't show the clear fucked up lol

    15mpg on highway LOL

exahust sounded like shit because of the poof poof poof from holes in muffler, i was going to weld patches on it but its too rusted up so i just cut it off until i get it into the exhaust shop

Have fun fixing her up. The previous owner obviously did no maintence but its worth it especially doing it yourself.

painted the roof, it needs cut and buffed.

prepping the hood and fender, its being a pain to sand down by hand.

i did less than half the hood by hand last night, i gave up and went down on the grit and bought some primer

hopfully i can get it painted today

i installed some OEM replacement shocks and they are too long, i have to send them back and get some made for lowered trucks. i'm getting the ones recommended by DJM which is where the lowering kit is from. they are "DJM Suspension 1900 Calmax SuperShock, 19.5 Inch Extended"

it rides like shit with the OEM shocks, but it doesn't clunk anymore LOL.

i had to go down a steep long hillside with a bunch of curves and the brakes got super hot and i had to stop and let them cool down then hold gears till i got to the bottom

the rear brakes weren't doing anything, i checked them and the adjusters were fucked up, i manually adjusted them and sprayed them with brake clean to hopefully clean the gunk off and let them adjust again
the little arm on the adjuster wheel on one side wasn't even touching it. so i bent it back and it seems like it will work again

You are missing Dakota on the left side & 5.9 on the right with the R/T, which isn't the correct R/T emblem.
