Thread: Hotchkis TVS Potential Run for Dakotas

  1. #1

Default Hotchkis TVS Potential Run for Dakotas

So I reach out to Hotchkis and bug them every few months. Finally they responded with something with a little potential. I cut and pasted the email I got from Patrick at Hotchkis below.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Is there enough interest to maybe make this happen? Obviously we would have to get a ballpark on price.

Can I get some feedback from an administrator on here to see if we could get this in a spot that could generate a little more exposure on the forum site?

    Thanks

    Shaun

    Hi Shaun,

Thanks for reaching out again, this is something we want to stay in touch about.

The best way to proceed would be to compile a list of interested customers and what their level of interest is. Ranging from “Definitely Will Purchase” down to “May Purchase” when/if the parts become available. We would need names and phone numbers at minimum.

If your group can put together a few dozen names, I will be able to make a pitch to our team to see what can be done.

    Thanks!

Applaud the effort, lucky if there are a dozen active members here. Mostly old timers, many who already have the TVS system. Although if they reissued the tuned Bilstiens I would be in line. If you want to gather the numbers needed you will have join and post on the many Dakota Facebook groups.

Includes an awesome set-up to make these trucks perform like a lowered car around turns. Slightly stiffer than stock, but not bad and makes a much better driving experience.

    Includes;
    -Front coils
    -Rear leaf springs
Will lower truck 1” (from stock R/T height, 2” Non-R/T)
-Upgraded front and rear sway bars
-Bilstein tuned shocks for Hotchiks kit

I believe they used to run around $1200 for kit.

Bought my first one on for my 2000 in 99. At the time the Shocks were an option. Think they kit was $1000'ish. The tuned Bilsteins were a pretty pricey add-on. Many at time didn't go with them. Pretty sure they were close to $100 each. Believe this was before they marketed it as TVS.

I’d be interested, if I don’t sell the truck first.

Yeah I got my kit in 01 if I remember correctly. The TVS kit was $1200 and the shock option was like another $400. I think I was all in for just under 2k with shipping.

If anyone has any degree of interest for a kit or parts please email Patrick at the sales address above. I feel shady asking for people's names and phone numbers hahaha.

Thanks again for jumping in and reaching out to Hotchkis. You will have more validity with the group than I will so any help you are willing to offer is outstanding and much appreciated. Let me know what you need from me and Ill do whatever it takes.

I emailed with a commitment to buy a full set and additional shocks. Response was not as encouraging.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for reaching out, we always appreciate this type of feedback.

I mean, I already have a set (best mod ever, honestly), but might be tempted to have a spare set on-hand...in case I ever add to the fleet, or to swap out on a frame refresh.

Hey Justin, would you be interested in a full kit plus shocks?

Hotchkis would be out their minds to revive this kit unless they had a pre-paid order large enough to make it worth while.

that being said I'll put on the Captain Obvious cape... i think it would not be difficult to duplicate the end results of the kit with the information available. the info i've never seen is the spring rate of the rear leafs. a good spring shop should be able to check them and duplicate them. front spring specs are known, lots of different as good and better shocks are available, there are sway bar manufacturers that will duplicate a shape and make the rate as wanted.

If there is enough interest, next step can be pre-paid orders to fill or a couple other options I'm looking at.

Would be a lot more work to source out all of those parts separate. More folks would be inclined to buy a kit that's ready unless someone else does all that leg work and testing/comparison's to a TVS kit.

no, it would not. the only info missing is the rear leaf rate.

double check the extended and collapsed length if lower than a stock R/T. also check the bushing sizes. this is results from a quick search on bilstein's website.
