Default Facebook Market Place Now Reporting to the IRS

I just noticed that Facebook Marketplace is now reporting sales to the IRS. How wonderful! So, the seller better charge the buyer sales tax, or work it into the price. Because if the seller sells more than $600 worth, the IRS is going to take the tax out of the sellers hide.

This sucks if you are selling personal items that you already paid tax on to initially obtain. Just like ebay, etc.

Most Facebook sales are face to face meetups. I have listed and sold stuff on Facebook and never claimed I sold it on Facebook. They delayed the implantation of the $600 reporting rule and are now discussing moving that up to $10,000.

I think it is mandatory if you want to use the facebook shipping feature. I typically use it for local transactions within 200 miles of travel, if it is a good deal. I found 3 Sunex hand crank engine stands, brand new in the boxes, for $150 each. They are stronger than most 1000# engine stands and have a larger foot print. I have a 440 big block on one of them and it is stable and easy to turn.

However, the two times I have bought something that was shipped to me off facebook, the items were both broken. The first instance I bought a manometer for my flow bench to test port velocity, and it was shattered in 3 places (not caused in shipping). The second time I purchased a stone dresser for valve grinding, and the item was also broken. The guy wouldn’t take it back or give me a refund. That was a total nut roll sorting that one out. If I buy off facebook now, it is only local.

Set a notification on facebook marketplace for engines stands. I've seen quite of few of them come and go over time, but if the price is right, they sell very quickly. You have to act fast.
