Thread: Thoughts on tires

    Default Thoughts on tires

Well, time has finally come for the R/T to go under the knife. Just sold my street rod and have a nice big chunk of money to get this build going. Just got a new battery for the truck and it fired right up. Now I need to get some tires and I know this subject has been asked quite a few times over the years

I've been looking around and seen a few people mention the Nitto 255/50R17 and even seen some others mention the 275. What are you guys running for tires on the stock now on the 17" rims? I'd like to keep all 4 the same size so that I can rotate the tires.

I run Nitto 275/50R17, but the are hard to find. I don't put a lot of miles on mine, so they last forever.

If your r/t is dropped, I would suggest a smaller 255/50/17. But, if you want more rubber on the back... I'm running Nitto 255/50's on front with M&H 390/40/17 on widened r/t wheels on back.

I ran 255/50-17 invo's and they fit great and handled awesome, treadlife was short on them though. I think the Federals are the best bang for the buck and longer treadlife.

God damn that's some serious meat on the back! I'm assuming you widened the back rims to a 15" from the factory 9"? Mini tubbed?

Looks like it's either going to be a 255/50R17 or 275/50R17. I'll have to do some digging and see what I can find at the tire shops around here.

Check summit racing for 275/50R17. They can special order them for you.

Thanks! I take it that there's no rubbing issues with the 275 up front?

I have the Hotchkis 1/2" R/T drop (2/3" other Dakotas) TVS kit and they don't rub.

Nah. Website states it uses a 12" rim. Toyo Proxes drag radial uses the same width rim but it's closer to our 28" standard tire height. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...!&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have the Federals on mine. No complaints for everyday driving and their about $450 for a set of four.

Have them on mine as well. Those things last.

I do run 275/55R17 on the back when I can't find 275/50R17, they look good and fit well. Not sure if they would fit in the front, maybe if it hasn't been lowered.

You can still get the Riken Raptors in 255/50/17 super-cheap. They're now labeled as an All-Season Max or Ultra Performance though instead of a Summer Performance like they used to be. As far as I can tell though, they're still the same.
