Thread: valve covers

    Default valve covers

When I put on the 1.65 roller rockers from Hughes, they hit the finned Mopar performance valve covers that came w the truck when I bought it. I had 4 rockers machined so they would clear. Not working and I'm not sure that tactic ever worked with the ticking I'm getting at the rear corners of the covers.

There are two paths I can take: 1. Find a higher valve cover or 2. Get a spacer.
The spacer I am assuming needs a double set of gaskets. One for the spacer and one for the valve cover sitting on the spacer.
If that's the case, with the expenditure coming out the same, I lean toward new valve covers but I need them higher than the Mopar ones.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

What size cam do you have? are your rockers off set for big mouth ports ? Which heads are you running ? They have fabricated valve covers on eBay reasonable.
    Good luck.

RTV the spacer to the valve cover. then RTV the gasket to the spacer, easy on easy off.

Prolly the design of the rockers themselves.

Found the reason. The Hughes rockers have their adjustment at the top of the rocker and not the middle.
The adjustment knobs were just ticking the baffles at the end of the valve covers.
The fix is to slit the baffles in the middle and bend them up a bit to provide clearance.
