Thread: MSAINE street/strip valve body

  1. #1

    Default MSAINE street/strip valve body

Looking at getting a MSAINE Street/Strip valve body, what can I expect? My truck is a daily driver and I want good shifts under light throttle and very firm shifts under full throttle, but nothing crazy. Would like to hear peoples feedback that are using this valve body.

Do it. You won't be disappointed.
Nice crisp shifts, tires will chirp on the 1-2 shift if you're really stand on it.

If conditions are just right, mine can chirp on the 2-3.

Hardest part was dropping the trans pan and dealing with that mess.
Martin sends good instructions and is always willing to help answer questions. He's a great vendor to do business with.

Torque converter clutch. Keeps the converter from locking up in 3rd gear.
It was an option Martin offered when I ordered the valve body. I don't remember any special installation steps so it must be something he does internally to the valve body.

What about heat build up driving with a higher stall convertor on back roads where you will be in 3rd gear a lot (40-50mph)?

Not an issue for me. I installed a trans temp gauge shortly after I did the valve body. I never see temps above
    180. And it takes a good 1/2 hour of around town driving on city streets to get that high.

What I did was to get a drill and drill into the pan that came w the truck. This drained all the fluid out. I replaced this drilled pan with a pan w a drain plug. No muss no fuss.
They also have kits that help you install a drain plug in a pan w/o one but I wanted an aluminum pan anyway.

Are you using an external trans cooler?

Just the factory one. My truck is an 03' model which may be larger than some of the previous years.
I don't think torque converter slippage at 3rd gear speeds is a big factor on fluid temps.

The "driveability" of the truck is so much better with crisp shifting and a more responsive 3rd gear that I would have gladly added another cooler had I needed to. In my option Martin's valve body is a must do item if you plan on keeping that 46RE transmission in the truck. I think i paid $275 at the time and it was by far the best bang for the buck modification I've ever done.

I'm going to add a small trans cooler just to be safe and order the valve body with 3rd gear TCC bypass

I sent an email to Martin to order a Valve Body. Other than 3rd gear TTC bypass, what else do I need to tell him?

Tell him Big Rob said hi

I'm sure Martin will make sure to get you what you want. Just tell him your goals and he'll be helpful.
