    Default Kegger plate welded

We had some guy ask to get a plate welded on his kegger, I really wanted to cut his runners but he didn’t want to, 0F6F88B9-0E12-4C5D-9E4B-A4BF9DC650B2.jpg8FA41BC9-DBC7-424F-9440-1026F5E6B812.jpg1093B76E-C2CD-4C0D-A707-C036AA0CAB6D.jpg

Nice. What do you use to get a good weld from aluminum to aluminum? TIG?

Yes TIG, went with an 1/8 green tungsten 4043 filler rod, I thought I had taken a pic of the finished product but I can’t find it , FYI this was for a stock 318 dakota

I’ve always been curious about that. How many labor hour was that job, . Since labor dollars varies by region.

You know I don’t think they charged him, he works for the powder coat dept of our fab shop, had the plate cut on the laser and we tig welded it for him, I wanted to cut the runners ! I’m gonna say $75-100? And no bolts or gaskets to worry about

How much did the manifold move around?
    How thick is that plate?

Move around ? 1/4” , don’t over think it, just get some 5052 and weld it!

1/4"? damn. thats there to stay lol. nice.
I was just curious on the movement. Thats a lot of heat into it. but the way the kegger is triangulated. I wouldnt think it would move to much. Ive welding on some manifolds and they move a bunch.

Just let the heat chase itself, we did 1-2” center weld on each front/back, then we did 1-3” center weld on the sides, then on each side we did a 3” weld on the ends, after that wrapped the corners and finished up the rest, I say WE cause another guy was helping out (lookout guy ) lol

I know what you mean. I have a buddy who is a superb welder. I ask him what his settings are, but he can't explain it. He just intuitively does it without thinking.

I had cut the runners on mine and cleaned the center out, ported the ports and cleaned the injector holes, I was going to weld a plate on it but I gave it away to a friend of mine so is supposedly building a 408 for his dakota, well that was about a year ago and his truck is junked behind his house
