    Default Remanufactured Transmissions

Hope you and your families are doing well.

I am looking to replace my worn out 46re on my 99 RT. It has 130k. I have had my RT for 5+ years now and I'm the third owner.

Looking to replace my trans & converter with a stock build, remanufactured unit.

Asking if any member here knows of reputable trans reman companies I can order from and have shipped to my home.

I scoured the internet and found the following if anyone has anything good, bad or indifferent to say about these.

    Thanks.

This is who I went through. 30,000 miles and plenty of romping later and their stage 1 46re is doing just fine.

For quit awhile Ma Mopar had an overstock of brand new 46re's that went for a really good price. I want to say a grand, brand new from dealer. Maybe a quick search here and a few phone calls to Dodge are in order.

Thanks for the info. I tried several online Mopar parts dealers and none in stock (discontinued).

If you want a good trans talk to Martin Saine. Stock these transmissions have terrible valve bodys and if your going with another one I would advise doing a VB upgrade. Nothing crazy but MS can hook you up and at a pretty go price.

Find a local trans shop that specializes in Older/Muscle (and preferably Mopar) transmissions. My stock tranny shit itself around the 50k mark and I had it rebuilt by a local place in fresno (the guy's dad helped develop the B&M kits for chevy transmissions) and I've got over 100k on that rebuild without any issues.

I have heard MSaine makes great trans parts. I will keep this in mind.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback.

I got in contact with Martin Saine who by the way seems to be a very stand up guy. He answered all my questions (and there were alot) I now understand why he has been in business for so long.

Anyway, he will be building my trans for me as soon as I pay him this week.

I cannot wait to drive my RT without tranny issues. Should be like a new truck again.

Thanks again to everyone for your input.

I will try and keep this post updated. I am slowly in the process of removing the old trans. I ordered a trans jack to be safe and will have the RT on wheel cribs along with jack stands for extra insurance. I have a nice level concrete pad on the side of my house thankfully as my driveway slopes down.

Updates will come, but will be slow as I am not going rush and screw something up.

    He is in Riverside, California.

He is building the trans, shipping it to me, then I will return mine as a core.

He has a great rep and is a stand-up guy. Check for a discount for forum members. Expect to pay at least $600 over advertised cost for shipping tranny to you and core to him. Still comes in cheaper than other tranny houses for what he installs. It's unfortunate we live on opposite coasts.

You hit the nail on the head for shipping. From CA to NJ and back to CA I expected the shipping costs to be about that. You figure something that weighs about 200 lbs and change isn't going to be terribly inexpensive shipping wise.

How much did you end up paying for the trans and for the shipping?

I need a trans bad, live not far from him. Theres a place in bakersfield that can rebuild for half the cost, seems to have decent reviews, but Martin has the rep.

If your close, may be worth the drive to pick it up and save on shipping if he has that option available; he could answer that question though. My shipping was roughly $600; however I'm on the east coast in New Jersey and its residential delivery to my home which costs a little more.

S/S 700 Trans with 28S Performance Converter was $2500 + $500 core. I think its a very fair price in my opinion as some stock build off the shelf trans from major parts retailers hover around 2k. The trans and converter I am getting is definitely not a stock build. I figure I want to do this once and be done.

I did ask Martin directly if I could post the price on the forum here and he was fine with that.

I would suggest contacting him directly. Very friendly, stand up guy that will answer your questions and give you the details.

    Martin Saine contact info:
    951-907-0434
    msaine1213@aol.com

Give him a call or shoot him an email.

Best of luck in your trans search.

    - Drain Trans
    - Remove Driveshaft
    - Remove Dipstick
    - Remove Crank Position Sensor
    - Remove Nut and Bolt on Starter; Disconnect Electrical Connector; Snap off copper stud on Starter; Starter falls on my forehead.

Wife says I'm hardheaded,; can't believe it didn't split my head open. I will say it rung my bell.

After the storm rolls over here on tbe east coast, I will tackle removing the exhaust.

I have been working on removing my exhaust. The y-pipe is the worst part but nothing a saw can't handle.

After looking around I did not realize until today there are 4 O2 sensors. I will be careful when removing these from the y-pipe as it is going to be replaced.

I do have a couple questions if anyone can advise:

    1. What size bolt is on the front of the crankshaft? 30mm was to small and 35mm was to big. I don't have any standard sockets in that range, so if anyone knows, I will order one. It would make it much easier than using a large adjustable.

    2. There are only 4 bolts on the torque converter; is this correct? Just want to make sure I am not missing any.

It's been a slow process as I dont want to be in a rush and screw something up.

This is how I have been accounting for all the hardware I remove. It works and keeps everything in one place. Nothing more than a thick piece of styrofoam and a sharpie.

    1. Try 1 1/4"
    2. Yes, only 4 converter-to-flex plate bolts.

Good idea labeling things. I use labeled zip lock bags in case things get knocked around a bit.

    Thanks for the info

I was surprised the converter bolts were not a larger diameter. I think the bolt head was 14mm.

    Anyway, the work continues...

Received my new Y-pipe today. Looks to be good quality and was one of the only direct fit for my 99 RT I could find.

    Details if anyone is interested:

I removed the trans cooler lines from the radiator to the trans. They are in rough shape as expected for being 21 years old.

I know these lines are discontinued. So I am thinking of going with braided hose and AN fittings.

Does anyone know the size of the 2 trans fittings? 3/8 NPT is to big so I was thinking 1/4 NPT??

3/8 NPT would thread in a half thread on the radiator but that was it.

If anyone knows the sizes of any of these, I would appreciate it.
