    Default Cruise control troubleshooting

No cruise control after dash removal / heater core replacement. Additionally replaced the steering wheel while at it.

Right now main questions. Been so long since I had used cruise on a Dakota. With Key on, in park if I press the cruise on will it light the dash light? Got nothing now.

Did the brake/stop switch adjustment, which was also accidentally pulled out of the bracket when removing the dash.. Missed it on the disconnect. Have a new switch coming.

Sounds to me your problem is electronic. And it should light up the dash when you are in park.

Did you replace the clock spring? With all that work. its possible you damaged the og clock spring.

Thanks.. Just wasn't sure it you had to be in drive and moving a certain speed for it to activate the dash light.

Not a high priority fix. Doubt I'll really use it. It just that things not working bug me. I was pretty careful with with the column, but yes I realize the clock spring could be an issue. This weekend I'm gong to do resistance checks on the switches and maybe some continuity checks through the clock spring..

Current plans are to do 392 swap in the future and will lose the cruise, so not really sure why I bother, other than as I said things not working bug me.

As a follow up and closure for posterity. Finally got around to chasing this down.

Clock spring continuity checked out. New brake switch and properly adjustment did not fix it. Ended up being when I switched steering wheels to a newer model year the part number of the control switches changed. For 1998 and 1998 only part numbers are 56021332 and 56021333. 1999 - 2003 use the same part number, but it has an AB suffix. The 1998 manual has a test in with resistance values for each switch. The AB parts measurements are totally different.

I stupidly tossed the raggity old wheel with the correct correct switches. Luckily the You Pick and Save has 4 98's, two with cruise and I was able to two pair of switches. Now appears to be working.

Added note. Cruise light would not come on until I actually started the engine. Did not light at "Key On".
