    Default Replacement Thermostst Housing

What are people using, OE replacement, aftermarket billet or stainless?

Without going out to the garage and checking, I am assuming the aftermarket styles which are shorter than the OE, may cause the upper hose to be too short to reuse.

Stock on race truck, billet on daily due to centered housing on old style 4bbl. Must use old cast steel or billets for those.

I've used both billet and stock. The billet one sealed well on the first use, but needed a new o-ring if to get it to seal again after I replaced the thermostat again later on.

Anyone happen to know the torque specs on the therm housing? I'm thinking around 150 inch pounds?

Yes they were. There is no one more stupid about technology than me. Your info would not open on my Mac. So I went to "2000 Dakota FSM" with Google. It still wouldn't open because it was "zipped" which I don't know that that means either.
I found something called Google "zip extractor" and applied it to the site. It opened! On page 56 it tells you the 5.9 engine thermostat housing is cranked down to 16 ft pounds or 192 in lbs.
This was truly a blind squirrel finding a nut.

    Thanks Jim for the clue.

Likely go with an OE type replacement.

I am currently running the billet with o ring on my 408 with the the old style M1. Because I want to run AC without hacking up the mounting bracket I ordered a a 67-72 v8 thermostat housing from Mancini. PN MRE2780970 Restoration Water Neck. Yet to put it on but looks like it might work with a little shaving on the bracket.

I like that one. $11 shipping though, unless I spend $70 some dollars more...

I'm using the billet type and have no complaints.

I ended up with the black, billet one from Jegs. I bought enough other bits for my engine pull, the shipping was "free".
