According these calculators, it should be very close. If you can get the hole shot on him, you might pull off the win.

Car and Driver list the quarter mile time of his truck at 15.1 at 91mph. I'm thinking I can tick off at least a mid 9 in the 8th. So it should be pretty close. I agree, holeshot and tree the snot out of him

Driving being equal, he'll win. He has a better power to weight ratio. I mean look at the torque rating on his truck. Traction will be king. Driving quality will make the difference. I've beaten vehicles a half second faster than mine. As you say, you'll need to tree him. If you can, drive around the bleach box. If not, just spin enough to get the tires dry and no more.

I have always heard this said of street tires, but never as to why? Does the harder compound not get sticky when heated like a slick or drag radial? Just curious

It is about compound as well as sidewall construction. Street tires simply get "glazed" over when heated too much and become "greasy" rather than sticky. Tracks are stickier than the street so take advantage of that but still don't heat em up that much and don't "under inflate" them either.

There are guys here who've raced with street tires who can afford you an idea of better rear tire pressure parameters.
Also, leave on the last yellow.

I go back to that "while" neibs. It was the dawn of drag racing. I was going to say "as we know it now" but that would be a bastardization. What it was and what it is now as far as the ultimate classes, is not even a near coincidence.

I was at the Nationals at Epping last week. They had a 1976 funny car next to a modern one. I'll take the old ones any day of the week even though they were a hundred miles an hour slower. As a matter of fact, I'd take the early and mid 60's funny cars with their Stromberg and Hillborn injectors sticking out of their hoods over what was starting to develop in the late 60's. At least they were still "cars" that were all hacked up but they came from the factory rather than a fiberglass/tube shop.

Good luck with the race. Not sure about your tire pressure but it would help if you set his at zero.

It ought to be interesting, those duramaxs are quick but if he's afraid to spool it up and ring it out you have chance.

Project Maverick. I feel the need, the need for speed

I would probably leave that tire pressure up around 30- 32. If you spin you are going to lose. Go practice some foot braking

My lights sucked, I was rusty. Of course I cut my best light when we were goofing off with my wife in the car, .152,

But everytime I had to pedal, even on a soft launch. Dad was breaking all four loose, so it was slick. Basically they just dusted it off with a broom and that was it. Fun stuff. He MPH'd me both times, so like I said, he would probably run me down in the 1/4..
