Thread: Help motor died what now?

Default Help motor died what now?

My 2002 plumb crazy rt died.

I've tried posting it local as I have no time.

It's sad cause she is such a great truck. Only ever let me down once before when the tranny went. I bought a new one and somewhere on this site is the link to the new old stock of our tranny.

The front end has been all done. The interior is still great. Only no motor will need a fender and the box has a rust spot above the wheel. It also needs new leafs but all shocks are new.

I've never done a motor swap of any kind and not sure where to begin.

The truck has 370k but most of it is new.

Do I part her out? Do I find a motor? Can't seem to find anyone interested in restoring her.

    Any suggestions?

370k miles is a lot. Swapping the engines on these trucks is pretty easy since you can pull the radiator and upper crossbar out and go straight out the front with trans and all. Stock 5.9Ls are also fairly cheap since it's the same engine regardless of whether it's in a Dakota, Ram, Durango, etc.

Replace the engine , to how you want it , drive it another 370 k or until the wheels fall off then I will tell you to fix the wheels good luck

Haha thanks guys. If it really is that easy then maybe I should just give it a shot. I do love my truck and she is fun to drive. I just wish she was better on gas.

You would have never bought her if you were worried about gas! Put a new motor in her. Mine says 240K or so but no big deal, Like you said most parts are new,

Why do you think the motor is shot?

Swap it out, it’s not so hard and you’ll be happy you did it.

I know the motor is shot since piston 5 and 6 both shot the spark plugs out of the head.

That really doesn't tell you anything other than they vibrated out. Are they shooting anti-freeze out of the holes or something? Pull the other 6 and do a compression test. Youtube it.

370K miles, if pulling heads anyway time for an overhaul or replace engine.
