    Default New from illinois

I just purchased my first Dakota RT. It’s a 2000 in blue. The truck runs and drives very good, except for the steering shaft is bad. I need a replacement suggestion. The truck is completely rotted, bed, fenders, radiator support, and cab corners. I found a rustfree bed that was an hour away for $350, with a rustfree tailgate. And got all new replacement body panels. Hoping to be on the road by July.

Welcome from California , is your worn steering shaft at the splines where it’s collaspable? All the Dakotas from 2000 should be the same. I once welded the shaft in mustang gt just don’t get in a accident, maybe someone rebuilds them .

It sounds like good old illinois road salt was doing its job just fine. It usually makes for a longer than expected project too. good luck
