Thread: Knock noise on startup

    Default Knock noise on startup

Went and started my truck this morning and noticed a knock type sound. It did not sound like a tick from lifters but more like rod knock. Hope that isnt the case. Motor is the 5.9 and I did an oil change last week and put 10w30 in it. The weird thing is it didn't do it after the change. It started today. Checked oil levels and they are still the same so far. In case it makes a difference its been on average about 30 ish degrees the past few weeks.

cheap filters tend to not have an anti drain back valve and over night the lifter bleed down and then the system takes some time to re prime and pump the lifters back up.
Fram uses a cardboard bypass valve if the oil filter gets clogged X amount of psi back up will open the bypass valve to allow oil pressure, dirty oil is better than no oil. Well cardboard by pass valve turns into soggy poop after a couple days and you are running on dirty oil the whole time that fram garbage is on there. The filter media is also of cheap quality and sometimes has been know to break down over time as well.

It was just a piece of the trans case that locates the starter broke off and was caught in the flexplate
