    Default Self aligning rocker arms.

I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention when I ordered these Chevy style rockers for my Edlebrock heads and got the "self aligning" type.
Seams like a very small shoulder to rely staying on top the valve stem tip. Any valve float or bounce may cause problems. I guess I could also use guide plates with them but has anyone run these without guide plates successfully? Either way I'm using hardened push rods.

I'm not an authority on this topic. I'll just tell you what I was instructed to do. :O I did some horse trading for some Crower SS rockers that were self aligning. Then, told to send them in to be converted to take the little guide thingy's off. I don't know what will happen if you go ahead and run those. Wish I knew more for you...

Haven't heard of any magnum guys running those. Can't think of why not. Personally, I'd feel more comfortable running guide plates. Jus my $.02 Just make sure the aligner tip doesn't rest on the keepers.

Valve tip clearance above the keeper is a concern.
I don’t have the heads here to measure so I guess I’ll visit the machinist next week and see what he thinks about them while I’m still within the return time frame on these.

I've been running a set of those Crowers with the guide thingy's for nearly 20 years now.

Just to update this. The guides on the rollers are not a problem, plenty of clearance. Engine machinist told me plenty of people run them but few have the balls to do so without guide plates. He advised me to just rely on both and sleep good at night

Just run them with guide plates, you will be fine as long as the roller tip guides don't contact the valve locks.

Sounds good... Don't know why Danno told me to send in the Crower SS rockers I got from him with the guides.

I just went through this yesterday with my Hughes 1550's. Have to use the guide plates otherwise they will move to funny angles on the valves. Mine got all wonky with a few spins of the motor without the guideplates.
