Default Rare Possible Prototype M1 2-bbl Intake Manifold

A customer Keith dropped off an intake manifold in which the OEM fuel rails wouldn’t fit. I’d never seen this intake before. It looks like an M1 2-bbl but there are several differences:

    1. It appears to have a Chrysler part number but ii is not designated with a “P” part number: 53031728AA
    2. The arrangement of mounting bosses is different from the Mopar aftermarket 2-bbl.
    3. The plenum is not as tall.
    4. The intake ports at the flange are extremely square and accurate.
    5. And most notably, the injector bungs are cast and machined at a 23-degree angle where the OEM and other aftermarket intakes (Airgap, M1 4-bbl, and M1 2-bbl) have a 13-degree angle.
    6. There are other minor differences as well.

I wonder if this intake may have been a prototype that found its way out of the scrap heap back in the day?

To make fuel rails fit beneath the 52mm throttle body linkage without a spacer, I used the shorter Hemi 30# injectors, and sunk the injector ports further into the fuel rail. The 6AN fuel rails were also machined with 8AN ports for 8AN fittings. This intake was more of a challenge due to the extreme injector angle and short plenum.

This is going in a Jeep with a 402 stroker:

The engine was built by Godfather Racing in Fraser, Michigan.

Yeah, I'd be interested to know. I tried searching the web to no avail.

    Wild for sure.
It’s amazing what can find it’s way into the wild.
I have a set of prototype aluminum heads on my ’96.Supposedly only 5 made, and who knows where the others are.

I'm guessing the injector angle is to get the injector spraying directly to the valve. Which is preferred I'm told.

Richard, are the intake runners longer on this intake?
They look to be, maybe an optical illusion though due to shorter plenum?

I didn't actually measure them but they look to be the same. Yes, I think the shorter plenum just makes them look longer.

    Interesting!
I noticed the Injector angle from the pics right away.
What finish is on the casting? Come that way or is that like a chrome powdercoat?

Yeah, the customer had it powder coated silver.

Here is my "Hen's Tooth" M1, that Richard and I have been conversing about. Going to measure the height of where the Throttle Body sits on both the Kegger, and M1 to see what size spacer I need.

Yeah, same intake. When measuring be sure the injector bung distance is about the same. Otherwise, better to place a throttle body on the M1 and measure directly off the intake with the fuel rails in place.

No problem Corey. Use wood or metal spacers of some type to stack up between the throttle body and intake to get an even and accurate measure of height.

For added information, if anyone comes across this intake in the future, the Throttle Body mounting surface is 1" shorter from the stock Kegger. I looked at all of the TB Spacers on Summit that apply to our trucks, e-mailing the manufacture and asking for the bore diameters, and all state they were made for stock TB Bores. None would give an actual bore measurement. Customer Service? Nope!!! I have a 50 mm TB, and will be sending it out to HiPoTek to be enlarged to 52 mm, and will enlarge the TB Spacer.

Interesting how the stock right rear fuel rail mount was made over part of the part number. I too, am running HiPoTek's Fuel Rails.

Added info: The Trans-Dapt Spacer above arrived, and has bores of 50 mm. Easy to machine to 52 mm when the time comes.
