Default Rotating assembly for my 408

Getting ready to pull the trigger on ordering a 408 rotating assembly as soon as the machine shop tells if my block is good. Anyone have opinions on this Scat kit?
    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sca-1-48033bi

I've read that most I-beam rods will clear the block without modifications for the 4" stroke.
    Is that correct?

Are you planning to run a "power adder"? I think that would be where I make the decision between I-beam vs H-beam. Danno masterminded my build planning to get me on Nitrous. Thus, H-beam SCAT rods, ARP 2000 rod bolts, SRP flat tops. I can't help with the clearance question. :/

I've got the Scat rotating assy in my 408. Yes, the I-beam rods will clear with no grinding.

    No power adder planned.
End goal is simply to build a strong short block, slap on Eddie heads, target around 10.5:1 compression ratio and have fun and enjoy whatever power it gives. No race truck here. Going with forged internals is overkill enough. I figured H-beam rods would be just a waste.

What happened to Danno? It's like he disappeared.

That assembly will be fine then for that.

Nothing wrong with going forged. You'll know it'll take what you throw at it. Those Scat I-beams are rated for 700 hp. No prob!

Definitely going forged crank but since I'm going mild should I be concerned about the longevity of forged pistons? This Scat kit comes with ICON forged pistons T-6 heat-treated, 2618 aluminum alloy.

Can I realistically expect 30 to 40 thousand miles from these pistons? Or should I go with hypereutectic pistons for longevity?

The forged pistions will last . I'm rebuilding my 408 right now the motor has 40,000 + miles on it right now . This has a forged MP crank , Scat H beam rods , and ROSS pistions . The pistions are still within tolerance . Way back the motor loss some power . Pulled it and it has sat on a stand for years . Now that its apart , i found the plasma finish on all the top rings has cracked , allowing compression to get by . This was caused by a bad tune from F&B . F&B was the only tuning for these trucks way back when . Now its going back together with a blower in the future.

4032 would probably be ideal for your build but 2618 would be fine. Just make sure you do proper warm ups to get heat in the piston before beating on it. coating the skirts would help as well.

You're absolutely correct Niebs. After more education on piston alloys is see 4032 would be much better for me. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Looks like I'm better off piecing together a rotating assembly myself as most of these forged kits are for an all out race build. Not my wussyfied mild build.

This why I'm not to proud to ask questions. Thanks guys

You got some really good answers from guys much more knowledgeable than me. I went back and re-read the specs on the kit, it says it is available in many combinations. "Nearly 800 Scat kits are available; order the package tailored for fitment with your engine application". It sounds like all you need to do is call to get the specs you want.

Machinist said the block is good so I ordered the Scat rotating assembly 1-48035BI with pistons swapped out to a Mahle 4032-alloy flat top piston. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sca-1-48035bi

The folks a Scat are very helpful Good thing because my Machinist told me I better not bring him any "shit cranks from Eagle"

2618 is the stronger alloy over 4032, I would run the 2618 so if you ever decide to become a man and run a power adder you are set. Also, the scat crank and rods are a good set, just get a better rod bolt with the scat rods to increase their "strength" or just run them and not worry about it.

Since I’m going for longevity over all out horsepower I decided on 4032.

I'm faster than most you power adder guys....Hence, I'm still a man.
And if I'm not faster...I'll damn sure be quicker, where it counts.

That’s why I’m going 4032 with no power adder.
Hopefully keep it a running truck for long time.
