Default Rebuilding motor need help With stiffness

So I'm rebuilding a 5.9 motor out of a durango. I didnt remove the piston crank cam or any mains. Only removed intake heads and oil pan.
I have the timing set on and lapped the valves cleaned the heads and connecting rods. When I put the re assembled head on along with the rocker arms and pushrods the motor will turn over until it hits one spot and stops dead in it's tracks. If I loosen the rocker arms to release all the tension it gets easier.

Did you have the timing chain off?
Cam is off....DO NOT force it....That's a valve hitting a piston.

Yeah I pulled the whole timing set off and got new sprockets. And chain.if the tim ing is off what's the proper way to get it back in the right?

    Start from scratch....

Install the chain with the crank and cam gears dot to dot on #1 compression stroke! Most important step in the whole job.
Crank dot at 12, cam gear dot at 12

Crank dot at 12, cam gear dot at 6.
I'll have to do that tomorrow afternoon
And if I pull the timing cover and those line up what would be another place to look?

There won't be anywhere else to look, but the #1 piston will have two TDCs, one exhaust, one compression. it has to be TDC on the compression.

That might be where it messed up didn't even think about it having two top dead centers, more than likely I used exhaust instead of compression.
Will I have to get a new timing cover gasket?

I would get a new paper gasket, the crank seal should be ok.

Also at #1 TDC both intake and exhaust valves will be closed judged by observing the rocker arm movement.

Any tips on pulling the main pulley off? Pulled keeps slipping off the back of the pulley

Don't pull from the perimeter of the balancer/pulley. You might separate the elastomer from the inner and outer sections of the balancer.

Not knowing what you are using for a puller...you might be able to reverse the jaws and pull through the "windows" on the center section.

You've had it apart, it shouldn't be too difficult to remove it again.

Update. Timing was way off and I guess my buddy put the crank sprocket on backwards so I couldn't even see the dot to line it up lol
