    Default Converting oil pressure sender to 97-00 style

    From what I understand the 01-04 Dakotas got an oil pressure gauge that's really more of an idiot light masked by a gauge (just says if there is oil pressure or not)
    Can I convert it to work like the 97-00 trucks that have an oil pressure gauge that actually works? or is that not possible with the stock cluster?

    I'm not running an oil line inside a daily driver, I'll go with an electric gauge.

    The oil pressure lines are high pressure...But that made me nervous too, it's being moved to the hood this winter next to my fuel pressure gauge.

    I've seen it happen to a few guys on YouTube, I'm not a fan of getting scalded by oil

    I ran a mechanical in my gen2. Cant say it leaked ever. Just ran a simple T off the stock sender.

    Nothing wrong with a mechanical gauge. Oil doesn't travel all the way up to the gauge. It traps air in the line which pushes against a diaphragm that rotates the needle in the gauge. With a good line and fittings you'd be fine. But I still used an electric gauge. 16 gauge wire are much easier to route and hide.

    You can run an engine oil pressure gauge into the cabin, I just use copper tube or braided line, I don't recommend that plastic tubing as it like to fail and leak. Fuel gauge you can't run into the cabin without an isolator as that can be very dangerous....

    Until the diaphragm fails, or a fitting fails, then you have 50 psi of scalding hot oil spraying all over your interior and potentially you or your passenger.

    I’ve always liked the mechanical gauges but electrical are easier to plumb, etc. I am using mostly mechanical gauges positioned for easier installation and removal. I’ve got to figure out where to tie in for the oil pressure as well. I’ll probably tee into the port for the oil pressure sending unit or some other spot that I haven’t determined yet. lol

    is this really a thing? I mean most auto race car and motorcycle fellas I know never have a problem and they run more than 50psi to their gauges.
