he was going to switch to a 904, but cope talked him out of it. TL: DR the 904 won't have anywhere near the life span of the 727.

I was leaning towards building a 904. Can be built to hold power. More expensive tho. But from your other threads, it doesn't seem like your planning 1000hp motor. 904 will probably be a good choice. Keep the truck weight down. Are you planning on foot braking?

727 here...and staying with it, just getting it rebuilt and rollerized this winter, I've run it for 10 years behind a couple different motors, can't beat that with a stick, but a 904 is definitely faster.

904 takes a good bit of money to make strong and will need constant freshen ups.
727 will be cheaper to handle the power and last a lot longer between freshen ups and the weight difference isn't enough for people like us.
Only time a 904 is worth it is in class racing were every tenth counts, we just add more boost/nitrous.

That will help keep the 904 together.

Shane Studly (see picture) was shocked to hear I ran a 727, but he's a super stock racer with a wall of Wallys, loves a 904.
I'm planning on sending him my heads and intake over the winter, but time might keep from it, I have to be ready to go in March., not much time after the Mopar finals in November.

yeah if i was going crazy stall and trans brake i would build a 727...i figure foot brake and a 3500 stall should be fine for the little 904...i figure its a good way to shed some weight!

The 904 also has less parasitic drag meaning more hp to the ground.

But, as said, it has a cost: more frequent refreshen jobs

This is my understanding of it in regard to less internal rotating weight although not as tough as the 727.

If you're building it, get a performance rebuild kit from Cope and go with the 904...might be a a tenth quicker from what I've read.
