Default Quest for more low...c-notch time

Hey, so I haven't posted in a long while. Been pretty dormant lately with the truck, but that's all starting to change. Lately I've had some fuel pump issues which then fuelled my desire to redo the rear suspension over again. Over the past 3 days I sprung into action, cut the c-notch using my jig saw which worked surprisingly well, and fitted the western chassis bolt in brackets. I also installed the front adjustable drop hangers (with the tank out of the way and no bed this job is a whole lot easier. Rivets are still a PITA lol.)
Plans are to finish mocking up the Air Lift bags, and then disassemble everything for painting the frame and rear end with por15. I'm also thinking of having a friend weld in the c-notch plates for added security. Also got my tailgate and roll pan down getting work done at the body shop for paint. Going to also paint my door handles and front bumper cover too.

Keep us posted on the project. IMO, welding the c-notch plates is a great idea.

With how flimsy the frames in these trucks, weld the c-notch in for sure.
Do the perimeter and plug weld all of the bolt holes too.
I took mine to a chassis guy that I know, and that's how he did my truck.
He said better to it once properly and have no issues.
If I can find the pictures, I will post them

Thanks, yeah not bad for 18yrs old! The secret is it's originally a southern truck, purchased and drove it home to NY in 2009 from Tampa, FL. I hate the rust that's starting to show though, so can't wait to hit it all with por15!!! off RUST!!

I take way to long to post updates...still waiting to put the bed back on, but it's almost finished. I modified my sway bar end links (made them shorter), so I have yet to install the sway bar back in place. Not a big deal. Also I cut the tailpipe back to the muffler and installed a turn down in front of the axle. OK pics...

Looking good man! Doing something similar now too, but mine was much rustier being a Canadian winter driven truck before I got it.

    Nice!
Looks like it was a time consuming effort, but worth it.

Yup was very time consuming, if I had to do it again I'd seriously consider paying for a dustless blasting service to strip the frame.

Gotta say I'm pretty happy with the results of por15, it looks great for how simple it is to use. Flows out real smooth as long as the substrate is squeaky clean. Hoping to get the bed back on this weekend, although it's been fun getting looks driving a half naked truck!

Make sure you top coat the por15 with something otherwise it will dull and look like dookie real quick

true... I heard ultra violet rays cause it to turn chalky, but I don't think it really effects the performance of the stuff. It already started doing it. Good news is it'll be protected from the sun after the bed is on, wasn't really planning on top coating it...I'll keep my eye on it I guess.

Just installed some along with a Hotchkis sway bar and shorter ES bump stops last week. Gave me a solid 2" drop Wife didn't even notice it rides the same.

Nice Scojo! Good to know it rides nice. Mind if I ask what shocks you're running? I have belltech's nitro drops in there now but I think they're shot. Also running 2" western drop arms.

Be sure to paint over this crap as it will flake off if not. Chassis Guard is the same stuff.

I used POR-15 on my chassis/roll cage, still looks like brand new, tough as powder coat and no flaking off. I did also clean and prep the metal as per POR-15 instructions.

Prep is key. I've seen this stuff go to smithereens w/o paint. Sensitive to the environment otherwise with questionable prep that paint seems to mitigate. Lot of ppl think to just brush this stuff over rust. Dark colors best.

Yep, correct prep is the most important part of POR-15 working correctly. Most times when people talk poop about it you find out they rednecked the shit over garbage.
