Default Rollbar Pics Rescued from Photobucket

Glen was looking for rollbar pics in the AZ R/Ts thread. I am horrible about pulling threads off topic - so just this once I figured I'd try and do the right thing and start another thread.

The rollbar is tucked up above the headliner.
I pulled the headliner out, trimmed the corner gusset of sheetmetal away to make room for a stronger than tin main rollbar hoop. It is 1/8" away from the outside sheetmetal of the roof on the inside. My helmet rubs the headliner when I'm racing it, but at least it's not going clunk against the rollbar the whole way.

The rear bars intersect with the main hoop at 5" below the top of the main hoop - which makes it still NHRA legal. There is a heavy outrigger that's welded to the frame that has a very short section of the rollbar that goes between this outrigger and the bottom of the floor. The main hoop sits flat on the floor and there are 4"x4" flat plates welded to the main hoop and also to the short stub below that sandwiches the floor in between with 4 grade-8 3/8x16 bolts on each one. I did the same thing with the forward downbar.

I planned on having all of these in some sort of order to follow the text - but the software doesn't seem to want to play cut and paste very well for some reason.... so the hell with it. Here are some pics! LOL

There are two crossbars that attach to the main hoop horizontally. This is where I attach the harness. It's attached to the lower bar, but wraps above the upper bar to get the belts exactly to the correct height behind the seat to anchor me in without compressing my spine in the event of a crash. (theoretically of course - I'm hoping to never test this however.)

The rear bar exits through the back window as high as they can and still clear the cab - while still being legal.

Thanks for the pics and info, Duner!! So the factory rear support structure was removed and that's where the top tube is...I just assumed the rear braces had to attach to the top part of the main hoop, meaning holes cut through the sheet metal above the rear window. I'm guessing you made this yourself . Nice work! Do the crossbars limit the seat rearward movement/or recline at all? I need as much room as I can get

    Yes, I made it.
Since the seat leans back at an angle - it hits the back window at the same time it hits the rear cross bars. The rearward braces are as low as the NHRA allows - at 5" below the top of the main hoop. That allows them to exit through the back window opening.

The seats still recline and slide like stock. Being a regular cab, it's still tight. Getting in and out over the bar just requires a bit of technique.

Must be tricky getting in and out with no swing outs. Looks very nice.

    Thanks!

Yes, it is indeed Lexan. I cut it out with a scroll saw after making a very good template to know exactly where the bar openings need to be.

I cut stuff for a living.
Wood, brick, concrete and steel, fingers...The straighter the tooth the slower the cut.
