    I have always ran a 28" tire
But with my 2.85 first gear and 4:56 rear gear I spinned the 408 motor pretty hard.
I'm thinking of running the Mickey Thompson et street pro 315/60/15
    http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...et-radial-pro/

It should put me threw the traps at 6500ish rather then 7200ish

My 429 made peak hp around 6400 rpm

    Side pics at rest
    29" rears, 28" fronts.

I'll be staying with 29" tall Hoosers but going with 5 lug 12" rims for the 12" slicks...The 12" slicks grow a lot more than the 10" did so I'm crossing the strip at 6500 rpm, need to be 6800 or so. I'll get 4.71 gears in my Ford 9", 4.56 now.

12" wheel with 12" slick might help keep it from growing better then a 10" wheel

    Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S - 28" diameter - MTT-3453
    27" fronts

I trap right at 6100, guessing you'll probably need more diameter.

It obviously sits lower at a standstill.

Sorry about your racing friend Dave. Always sucks big time when someone you knew so well is literally erased out of your life.

I dunno how much tech has happened to tires but when I was racing, it was the compound and construction of the tire that had the most effect for rotational growth. Granted wider rims provide more rollout but I'd be looking for a "growth" tire to reduce trap rpms and I'm thinking, (which lately hasn't been conducive to answers in todays shit) that has a better chance with slicks than drag radials. Bigger overall tires do not automatically provide better grip — if you change to a larger tire, you must also select a softer compound to assure better traction.

Off subject, we spent a crap-load of time on chassis weight transfer before we went to a larger tire. As a matter of fact, we used the smallest tire possible to get the traction benefits we wanted. Experimented big time with gearing and depending on the track, the "quick change" pumpkins were mandatory.

Lotta variables when it comes to tires. I have certainly seen larger tires make a car go slower.
Just an old racer blathering and drooling about old stuff.

I'm 3-4 tenths off my best ET, I know it's not just one element as in tire growth.

Radials are slightly faster but need sticky prep, slicks add a little more rolling resistance but will hook better on shitty prep tracks. Choose your tires to the track you race in my opinion.
