    Default Saine VB Installed: No D3

    I have had this MSaine valvebody laying around for a year, decided it was time to install. Everything went good on the install, no problems. Had a brief check engine light that I cleared after finding the electrical connector on the valvebody wasn't seated.

    Trans shifts good from 1-2, 2-3 initially did nothing. After tv cable adjustment I have 1-2, 2-3 rpm's flare, no drive. There is a hesitation going in reverse and low gear. Trans fluid level appears to be correct.

    Am I a tweak of the tv cable away? Any ideas?

    I have Martins phone number, wasn't sure about bugging the guy on a weekend.

    I had the exact same problem when I installed my Msaine valve body. Turns out I didn't have the governor pressure solenoid seated all the way down in the block. I have the updated Borg Warner solenoid and it has two grooves on the lower part of the solenoid, i didn't seat the valve part all the way in to the block and the hold down plate was catching the wrong groove. It felt like it was seated but it wasn't. Drop the pan and see if you can wiggle and turn the solenoid easily, if you can it's not seated properly.

    Thanks, I will do that.
    I installed the same solenoid during this VB install.

    Fingers crossed!

    Update;
    I drained and removed the pan, found the governor solenoid wasn't seated like BIGROB suggested. Corrected the issue, reassembled, refilled, test driven, there was still no D3.
    I called Martin to inquire since a valve body is a pretty straight forward install. After a round of questions and answers, it was determined I had left the large diameter accumulator spring installed.
    I disassembled all again to remove the spring. When I lowered the valve body I found the accumulator piston broken. I have a Sonnax Billet Accumulator on overnight ship to get this put back together.

    Sucks for sure to keep draining and playing in trans fluid,shits not cheap.

    Once it’s all done,hopefully it works the way you want!

    Update;
    The new accumulator piston arrived, I installed, test driven, D3 is still missing.
    Initial conversation with Martin had him offering to go through the VB if I would return it to him. The conversation then lead to trying the spring removal first. Which I did and found the broken piston then replaced it.
    I will be removing the VB once again, will get it boxed up, and ready to send West for a check up.
    I am getting some good practice though!

    That is the worst part. Damn thing will drip for days it seems. The plan at the initial drop of the pan was to change the fluid. When I had to reopen, I picked up a new drain pan. Now on refills, I use the same fluid running it through a fine mesh automotive paint strainer.

    Update #3;
    I removed the MSaine VB and reinstalled my original, D3 is back shifting like it should.
    Now that I have verified everything is good with my original parts, I will take Martin up on his offer and ship the VB back to be checked out.

    I am getting pretty good at this. It takes me 2:15 from putting the truck on stands, removing the VB, swapping the solenoid, harness, and associated bits to the other VB, reinstalling, and startup. This is sliding under the truck on jack stands to do the swap.

    I prefer to measure wrenching time in knuckles busted and beers consumed.

    Sometimes I'll lay under the truck for a couple extra hours just for the peace and quiet away from the wife and kid

    The valve body is sitting in my garage boxed ready to go back to Martin. We last talked 3 months ago or so, he is going to go through it to see what is up.
    I had been doing some extensive home remodeling and hadn't taken the time to stop by Fedex. I was just thinking today that I need to bring it to work so I can get it dropped off.

    Latest;

    I received a call from Martin on Tuesday of this week. He took the VB apart, went through everything, found that a check ball was MIA. It is back together and ready for a return trip to IA.

    I have to say, Martin is one hell of a guy, very congenial. It is nice to know there are still people out there like him.

    .

    Check balls are important. Hopefully this will be the last time swapping the vb.

    I haven't removed the VB yet on mine yet, but I hear that once removed, that's when most of the fluid comes out.

    Yep, converter will empty through feed hole, you generally will need 8 to 9 quarts of fluid to refill but always start with 5 to 6 quarts and then check it.
