If a local club member doesn't have one, check out car-part.com. I found one for myself 3-4 yrs ago.

As I understand it 2000-2003 are the same. Will a non-r/t shaft work, the only difference would be in the material, aluminum vs steel? What is the part number?

The RT didn't get a special driveshaft. The trans/driveline combo is what dictates different shaft lengths and material. Shortest shafts are steel, medium length are aluminum and the longest are 2-piece steel with carrier bearing.

If a 46re 2wd truck called for an aluminum shaft, they all got the aluminum shaft, not the RT only. My quad cab had an aluminum shaft

Carbon? You sure it wasn't an aluminum with a harmonic reducing wrap? I've not seen any Dakota that had a carbon driveshaft. That's ridiculously expensive for a mid-size production truck

No metal at all between the sections and it's large- Like 5" in diameter. I've got a few scrape marks in it from loading the truck on the trailer while too low. I'll snap a photo of it when I get a chance

I have held the solid aluminum ones that do not look like mine and they feel almost twice as heavy. I have mine out. I'll take a closer look tomorrow
