Please tell me you used a solid lifter to measure your pushrod length?

take two old lifters, remove the snap ring, remove guts, insert washers to shim, put plunger and snap ring back in, check for pushrod length with no deflection.

PS, use them only for measuring, washers no good for lifter shim for a running engine.....

    There was no need to.

Not trying to give you a hard time Mike but I'd recheck the pushrod length. 6.950 usually works for many builds and your pushrod length is a 1/4" shorter than that.

Edit: That is without decking the block or machining the heads.

Block decking is typically only about .010" to .005" of material removed, even if you cut the heads for combustion chamber cc's you won't remove more than .030". No way those two procedures will cause you pushrod length to move that much!

Anyway I went to the shop today. I again verified the pushrod length with Jayson and it is 6.7". Using the stock pushrod at 6.9" the rocker rolls off the outside edge of the valve stem and there is no more adjustment to correct the geometry, they are and still are too long. At 6.7" the rocker geometry is spot on. That's where it's at. Thank you for your concerns about the length.

Heads are not shaved. The new block deck height is 9.520" and my Quench is at 0.038"

Today was to prep for tomorrow's task of putting the engine in. Painted the rest of the engine, bolted on the flex plate (55ft/lbs), got the distributor close as an eyeballs glare at TDC on #1 compression stroke, crank sensor, oil pressure sensor, oil filter plate and gasket (50ft/lbs) and motor mounts ready.

Side by side photos of the stock and EQ head exhaust ports for those that might be interested in seeing the difference.

Pretty quick turn-around, really. Engine builds somehow have way to many set backs! Don't forget to video that baby on first fire-up!

Today's progression with red thread locker on the flexplate and torque converter bolts. I had to shim the crank sensor a few thou due to the shaved deck. Some washers of the correct thickness brought it back to factory gap.

Only got a couple hours on it today. Bolted the grounds to each head, got the last two bell housing bolts in along with the brackets on the top left and right. Got the injectors and fuel rail in along with the wiring harness laid out and installed the TB. Tomorrow's another day and I plan on getting a good majority of the front end put back together.
