    Default Headliner Build

I know a few people have done this on here but I thought I would share how mine has gone. My old headliner was absolutely gross. The pictures I'll put up don't do it justice. The previous owner was a smoker, so it was full of holes and falling apart. Between that and that tan color we all love so much, it was time to swap it out. I went with a simple flat black fabric. If you have the tools to do this, this is probably the cheapest thing I've done to my truck, and is not super difficult. Supplies: $35.00. Fabric/foam which came together from a local store, as well as a can of adhesive. Total time: 3-4 hours at the most. Taking out the headliner is pretty simple. Easiest way for me was to just pull out the front seats and center console. everything else either screws out or pops out. After you get it out the fabric pretty much pulls straight off, just be careful around holes. Getting the old foam off is easily the hardest part of this whole project. I used an old snap on crud thug. It worked great, but be careful on the edges and any wholes as it can tear it up pretty easy. After getting the foam off, I went over it with 80 sand paper one time lightly. Then cleaned it with some solvent. Let it dry. Sprayed one half with adhesive, pressed down that side, then did the same with the other half. After that its just cutting out the holes and the outside of the liner. All I have left to do is a little cutting then installation. I'll get some pics up later this week, its not perfect, but this its the first one I've done. I'd say it went pretty good for flyin off the seat of my pants the whole time.

    Headliner cut.jpg
Headliner cut and ready to install. (as soon as hail damage repair is done). A couple spots look like its cut to short but theres plenty of room for all the shit to cover it up. I thought about wrapping it around all the edges but the original wasnt, so i said screw it.

    Carpet removed.jpg
Decided to do the carpet at the same time. might as well as long as the inside is already half torn apart. (truck was originally red) obviously...
Hope to get the carpet in the next couple weeks.

Looks good, did you still have the smell of cigarettes in the old headliner and carpet?

Thanks. Not really, I got most of it out just from cleaning, and airing it out. There was still a very faint smell, but hardly noticeable.

If you were in Florida I'd say crack the windows and let it bake in the sun, but seeing where you live you might want to let the heater do it. Materials have tiny pores in them that trap the scent of smoke and when the material warms up it vapes out that odor because the pores expand. At least that's what happens with houses.

Do you punch the fenders so hard that you dent them and leave knuckle imprints? or dent the box sides with your feet?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that if you abuse an RT like that it's a federal offense...

Finished up the carpet/headliner. Not the best pictures, but it looks a million times better than the old stuff. Flat black, painted the overhead console and over head dome light black to match. trying to decide what to do with the visors.. seats are next.

Thanks, anyone have any suggestions on visors? Am I best off just trying to rewrap them with headliner material? Or just trying to find some black ones to match

    Excellent looking progress.
I agree with everyone here on the smoke thing. IF it's really bad, rent an Ozone machine. That will force it out.
    Again, the truck looks great.

Thanks! Funny I actually just got an ozone generator a couple weeks ago, I have yet to try it in my rt but it worked great in my dd. The new headliner and carpet helped the smell a little, hopefully the ozone generator will take care of the rest. i'll give it a shot before i put it in storage.
