    Default Edlebrock 61775 heads

Ordered a new set of Edelbrock 61775 heads today

I got a sweet price of $783 each so I went with the assembled heads but I've read that many Eddies come with good valves but springs that are questionable with inconsistent pressure that fatigue quickly.

Should I budget for some good springs or take my chances?

I will be sending the heads off to be checked so now would be a good time to swap springs.

Have them checked, most eddy heads have the guides too tight and the combustion chamber is usually closer to 64cc and not the advertised 58cc.

As Dr. Bleach said, get the valve guides checked, and shaving them .030 will bring the chamber s to 58cc.

Can't go wrong with known/reliable springs.

They'll be checked for all of the above by a good shop.

What type of springs you are guys using? I haven't totally finalized my build plans yet but it will be a hydraulic roller cam and I want to be good for at least .580 - .600 valve lift. I know spring pressures depends on cam and lifters but like what type of spring. What's best for longevity, Beehives?

It all depends on your cam.

Valve seats too. I had a head with one so bad there was visible daylight around 3/4 of the seat.

They might brag on being American made, but their labor in the machine shop is apparently a bunch of inexperienced temps who were packing groceries or bussing tables last week

Oh, and valve guides were tight on 3 of the 4 heads I've used

Honestly, it's a good idea to get the whole valve train replaced in the heads. Almost every manufacturer uses chincy components, I saw the SloppyMechanics guys had a set of Trick-Flow heads on a 1400 hp turbo LS and it dropped a valve, when they disassembled the heads every single valve was mushroomed, and the seats were beat up.

They'll be checked over good by a local shop I trust.
Everything I've read about the 61775's said the same things you guys are mentioning so I was prepared for that.
That turned me off of the Eddies at first and I was planning on ordering a set of stage 1 EQ's from PIE but I got such a good price the savings covers the shop charges.

Got them from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $783 each, no shipping charge.
At work I'm the purchasing manager and I spend 20 or 25 grand a month with them. The commercial account manager there really kisses ass and hooks me up when I ask for anything personal

Plus I worked at O'Reilly's years ago, I know all the sources and tricks they use.

Why milk the heads to bring the chambers to 58cc? Is it just to bring the compression up?

I believe we are born that way and to deviate from our norm, we have to "get" civility.
