Thread: Weld wheels and 5 lugs conversation

Default Weld wheels and 5 lugs conversation

I was thinking about a 5 lug conversion for my Dakota. I've been in touch with Moser engineering about this conversion. It is a fairly inexpensive conversation.(300.00 dollars.) I was going to use weld drag stars. Has anyone done this before and what tips could you recommend? What is the maximum tire and wheel size I should use? I don't want to roll the lip of the wheel well. Is a 325 50 15 tire possible?

It's 320.00 for both the front hubs and rotors and the rear axles and drums, if you send in your old parts.

2000 crown Vic hubs, 2000 explorer 4wd front rotors.

You need to machine the spindle pin down to fit the crown box hub, and add I think a 1/4" spacer to ensure the bearing wears on the whole pin.

    Done

Alternatively, for a little more cash: '03 Dakota knuckles, '94-'04 Mustang Hubs (with spindle machined down to fit, roughly 34.1mm IIRC), '13 Mustang GT dual piston calipers and '13 Mustang GT 13.2" rotors. You need a .75" spacer(s) for the caliper brackets, but it works out rather well and gets rid of the stupid factory caliper pin mounting system on the older trucks.

It's been awhile I couldn't remember at the time but 5/8 sounds better

This seems vary simple. Any driving or braking difference ? How long will this last. Any chance u have pics of the thing u machined?

Forever.... braking is the exact same. Machine the spindle pin so the hub can slide on
