I guess it really was considered a dumb question, but I was being serious as I need to replace my PCM in my '01 RT and if it does have a "tune" in it I would like to be prepared. I have never dealt with computer related performance before. I like the results but the mystery of how is out of my wheel house. Thanks Mike
Unfortunately my tach does not work, but thanks for the reply
typically the rev limiter will be raised too, you could pull it down to manual low and do a burnout and see when it kicks in hahaha... I know you said your tach doesn't work tho but maybe you have access to a scanner that would indicate rpm?

Why do you need to replace the PCM?
Regardless of whether or not there is a "tune" loaded to it, if you don't have the hand held device, be it SCT, Superchips, etc. then it won't matter anyway. The only way to 'save' the tune and put it onto your next PCM is to use the handheld that loaded the tune in the first place. These companies are very serious about software piracy and copyright laws. Once a particular handheld loads a tune onto the computer, it becomes locked to that computer and is totally useless until the computer it flashed is returned to stock.
so...if you did not get any kind of hand held device, then chances are, your truck has a stock tune in it. Replace your PCM if you really need to (again, why do you need to?) and if you find that your performance has dropped, then you have little choice but to buy a new tuner/package from someone.
