It seems to be the norm for machine shops/engine builders. If they have a reputation for building good stuff, they usually have a long waiting list.

Another small update. The rotating assembly is balanced and small block is in the process of being assembled. Inthe meantime I got my new power steering pump finished and ready to install. Just one question, how far does the pulley need to be pressed on the shaft? There doesn't seem to be a postive stop like I thought there would be.

Lookin good. I just measured mine while the hood was up and the edge of the pulley is a 1/2" from the end of the shaft. Looks like your needs to go a tad more.

Finally got my engine back Friday. But I've been working 12 hr shifts ever since. Haven't even had the chance to unwrap it yet. While I was picking up my motor the the guy at the shop told me that he was shutting down the shop and selling off his equipment. After waiting for about 4 months for mine I can understand his decision. As soon as I can I'll post some pics and give more details.

Probably going to have the cam re-degreed. Cam card calls for 108 cl. But the shop has it set on 106.5 cl. He lost the key for the cam and reground one from his junk box to use. Told me that it would be ok and that after the chain loosens up that it should be it right. Opinions?

Looks like we're both are going to have a 11ish compression ratio. Yes?

My flat tops are out of the hole .002 and are -5 cc's for the reliefs. Chambers are 66 cc's. I'm at 11.4 SCR. Cam will bleed of some compression netting just over 10 DCR. Looks like you'll have good quench. I'm at .037 quench. Considered near perfect.

Ok I'm gonna go ahead re-neg on this comment. Looking more like you guys are right and this loser is just a hack that inherited a shop and someone elses reputation. Thinking it may be a really good idea to stop where I'm at and take my stuff to another shop to go back and recheck everything before I even think about putting the heads on........ oh yeah the heads.....just wait for the pics of the valve job......you gonna love this....

Got my heads back (again). This time all is good and ready to go for real. Replaced 4 exhaust valves. Everything taken apart, cleaned, valve job done, spring checked, chambers cc'ed at 57cc. Next is determining pushrod length. Here's a couple of mock-up photos.

Is that white VHT or Ceramic coating? I was thinking about doing something like that when I was getting the longtubes coated, but didn't know how it'd look.

It's white VHT. Unfortunately this stuff doesn't stay very long. Wish I could find cera-coating in white

I kinda figured this was how it was going to go with a builder that keeps putting your work off. I knew it was bad when you went to pick it up and the guy said he was closing shop. Hopefully you get your cash back man. Looking forward to your progress.
