It seems to be the norm for machine shops/engine builders. If they have a reputation for building good stuff, they usually have a long waiting list.

Another small update. The rotating assembly is balanced and small block is in the process of being assembled. Inthe meantime I got my new power steering pump finished and ready to install. Just one question, how far does the pulley need to be pressed on the shaft? There doesn't seem to be a postive stop like I thought there would be.
I added blue loctite to mine cause it kept slipping off (custom aluminum pulley )
Finally got my engine back Friday. But I've been working 12 hr shifts ever since. Haven't even had the chance to unwrap it yet. While I was picking up my motor the the guy at the shop told me that he was shutting down the shop and selling off his equipment. After waiting for about 4 months for mine I can understand his decision. As soon as I can I'll post some pics and give more details.
Finally some play time.
Probably going to have the cam re-degreed. Cam card calls for 108 cl. But the shop has it set on 106.5 cl. He lost the key for the cam and reground one from his junk box to use. Told me that it would be ok and that after the chain loosens up that it should be it right. Opinions?
He calculated it to 10.2 to 1. But he was also plugging numbers from memory soooooo..........?
When I get the heads on then maybe I can check to see where it's at.
If you haven't lived for something, you'll die for nothing.
Ok I'm gonna go ahead re-neg on this comment. Looking more like you guys are right and this loser is just a hack that inherited a shop and someone elses reputation. Thinking it may be a really good idea to stop where I'm at and take my stuff to another shop to go back and recheck everything before I even think about putting the heads on........ oh yeah the heads.....just wait for the pics of the valve job......you gonna love this....
The pics are here. I was told..... " Yeah everything checks out good....valves, guides, springs, yeah it's all good.....everything set....ready to bolt on and you good to go....."
Those are supposedly ready to go? Wtf. Yeah get your shit outta there and don't look back.

Got my heads back (again). This time all is good and ready to go for real. Replaced 4 exhaust valves. Everything taken apart, cleaned, valve job done, spring checked, chambers cc'ed at 57cc. Next is determining pushrod length. Here's a couple of mock-up photos.
Mods - TB Spacer, Short Throw Dipstick, Performance Auto Zone Intake "0.30 over bore", R/T Cam, Performance Chip, Radiator Delete
Rev limiter? that's what valve springs are for!
It's white VHT. Unfortunately this stuff doesn't stay very long. Wish I could find cera-coating in white
check your piston to valve clearance after you change the ICL of the camshaft.

Doesn't look like they do white but these guys are known as the best in our area:

I kinda figured this was how it was going to go with a builder that keeps putting your work off. I knew it was bad when you went to pick it up and the guy said he was closing shop. Hopefully you get your cash back man. Looking forward to your progress.

Everything is cruzin right along now. A few little obstacles and a few extra steps to get through but it's all working out ok.
