Thread: Valve covers

    Default Valve covers

So while I have the covers off to replace gaskets I decided to paint them. I could have paid to have them done but I prefer to do as much work as I can myself. Was curious if anyone may have some tips on how to go about cleaning up the trademark like the ribs and letters or should I not worry about it?

These roloc pads work great for cleaning things up. I had the fins/logo painted purple on mine at one time. This is what I used to remove the paint & polish them up.

I think those will be to big to get in between the letters and fins to the trademark emblem. I've only hit these with 320 grit so far. Working towards 2000 grit, should polish up nicely.

Well they did look good. Cleared them earlier and the paint started lifting so I get to try again.

Yes, baked in the oven on 200 for 20 mins then let them sit for a few days before clearing. Did two light tack coats of clear before final wet coat. Stripped them down and started over. Have them baking now, will see how it works this time. Will just have them powder coated if it happens again.

Ahh man, that sucks! I hate it when I have taken the time to prep something really good, then I hit it with clear and it all goes to $hit!

Got one ready for clear tonight, debating on clearing it to see what happens before I go through all the trouble with the other. Sent the wife to get clear and she brought back dupi-color effex so either way it will have to wait till tomorrow until I can go get the right stuff.

No re-coat info on the can? Re-coat within so much time or after extended period.

Yes I followed all the instructions on the can. I contacted VHT and was told that the cure time could be more than the 7 days that it says on the back of the can and that I should wait.
