If it's an x3 you may just be hosed, sct is having major problems right now.

Good luck , try the PCM first before you go off buying a new tuner and a new laptop like I did !

What year is your truck and does it have security. I'm sure one of us has a PCM we can lend you until SCT fixes their stuff. I assume you called SCT?

Was it a used SCT X2 or X3?
Was the tune on the handheld for a different PCM part number?
If not, good luck getting a recovery file from SCT if it was a X2.

You are out a computer at the minimum, but I think your SCT is suspect and the model up from yours that works with our trucks doesnt fuckn work cause SCT has the whole thing fubared and figure out their ass from 3rd base. Its awesome thats the option for us right now.

I have a non- security for a 99, It should work just fine in your 98. It's listed on facebook classified. I'll ship it priority for $130.

This will happen EVERY time you try to install a tune written for a different PCM number.
Maybe we can sticky a "SCT don't do it thread".
The tunes are not VIN matched, they are PCM part number matched.
The OP probably can't read what the VIN or PCM number is any more on the hand held, but it's obviously not for a 98 Dakota R/T.

Brian pretty much nailed it. You can't simply load a tune from one truck to another.

So are all SCT X3's fucked up and won't work with our trucks or is it just a certain model/firmware revision that don't?

Been wanting to get one for a while to replace my stupidchips because of the integrated analog inputs for logging AFR.

His problem was a used tune that was loaded before. Not setup for his truck.
