Default The Black Pearl 408 Build

I'm finally taking the leap and building a hot n/a 408. I'm targeting 450/500 flywheel horsepower. I'll be posting eye candy and motor spec info along the way. Below I'm modding an Mopar M1 4bbl intake with 2bbl adaptor. Needs injectors drilled. I can do all the machine work myself where I work. Good to be a cnc machinist

Your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, flames, bashing's and insults are encouraged and welcomed.

The dykem at the rear is for coolant bypass lines I'm adding for additional cylinder head cooling. Also adding additional sensor ports near the t-stat area.

    SANY0082.JPG

Going to radius/blend below the flange mount for better flow.

    SANY0084.JPG

I'm going to machine out the webbing of the spacer.

    SANY0085.JPG

Adding an auxilary vacuum port where marked

I just may thanks. I just didn't want to be limited to one vacuum tree.

Ditch the 2bbl. What heads? Those numbers shouldn't be very hard to reach.

I use those heads but with bigger valves. Dont let people dog you for using an iron head, they work great.

Pay now or pay when it comes home on a flatbed. Sometimes both. Part of the game.

UPDATE: Block is in final prep. Got the TB adapter divider miller out. Filled in the "426" that was engraved on the valve covers. Will fill the "R/T" with black epoxy paint. Put in the check springs on the valves to check piston to valve clearance, pushrod length, and to dial in the cam. A few pics for your viewing pleasure. Till next update...

Finally got the block from the machine shop. Next in order, file fit the Total Seal rings. Then final wire brush galleys and wash the block thoroughly. Here we go!

More motor work done on the hot 408 for the Black Pearl. Ground off the casting flash in the middle of the lifter galley. Also ground down some bulbous casting globs on top of the lifter bores. Then gave the block a hot soapy bath using nylon brushes in all the galleys and cylinders. Next step, drop in the rotating assembly.

Thanks. I'm told it helps with oil return. Minimal I'm sure. Oil clings to sharp edges.

Sure. It will stop oil clinging and pooling and getting cooked into sludge.
But really it was just a couple extra hours of workshop therapy nothing wrong with that.
