    Default Standalone options

So recently Ive been thinking about standalones for more build options. I know this subject has been brought up before but those threads seem to be a few years old now. So I'm sure there has been newer systems or updates to these units. Whats out there, whats the best, and who has used or is using what? Is there any systems that will pass plug in emission tests? I not worried about plug and play stuff. Wiring is not a big deal as long as there's schematics.

What's your budget, and combo specs?

Well i'm not in the market right now. Just trying to put a paper build sheet together. Trying to get some info if there's anything new stuff out there. Ideally probably want to be around ~$1500. Ive been looking around and the MS3x seems to be a pretty sweet deal. Looking for sequential fuel and cpc spark. Then of course want extra like bump box, 2step, ect...
Ill probably run it piggy back cause i need to pass yearly plug in emission tests.

How are you with tuning basics, and are you good with working your way around a computer? I run MS3PRO, and it's been a learning experience with wiring up as a full stand alone. Word of advice read as much as you can on the megasquirt products, and read some more. It's a steep learning curve, but once it starts it's not to bad to tweak and get it down.

I know some basics of tuning, but I have not started from scratch and tuned for perfection. I'm good with computers and I plan on getting some books for tuning and such, please recommend any good books that would help. I'm really comfortable with wiring so I'm not worried about that.

ha I have thought about putting carb on it. But i've played with those already. The truck will be more of a toy/ practice building different things for it. So I'm thinking playing with a stand alone will be a good learning experience. I think ill do the ms3x when the time comes.

If you like to play with doing different things and then doing them over and over, rinse repeat....stay with EFI.

I haven't had to touch mine either when it's -20 in the building and I need to start the truck to move it.

If you know how to tune a carb it will work when it is 100* or 32* outside, like mine does....

LoL, more than people think, transfer slot is a huge issue most people miss or don't know how to set-up properly.

I don't doubt that there are better options out there.... But it works just fine for me!

BTW - I DON'T think it sucks at all.
I am curious about what part of it you think sucks?
    The actual hardware? TunerStudio?

But I also understand you often get a better product if you spend more.
I haven't seen other systems to see how or where they would improve it.

I've seen Curtis' set up and I like it. I'd really consider AEM as an option. I've heard good and bad things about MS
