Tranny went for a shit soon as I got it out. With the changes I made this past winter, we anticipated our new time to be in the 13.8 are vs our old time of 14.51
I installed the 3600/4bbl m1/4bbl tb with a tune but couldn't drag it.

It will be interesting Richard. This is the truck we ordered that crossmember from you for. As always real nice parts!!!! Fits like a glove. This has been something I have been interested in for a while. I am yanking my 46 out this winter and installing a 727 but I don't really drive mine much. It is a double edged sword. The OD is great for a driver but when you get to the point where you drive the truck very little and you are looking for every last bit of power it has to go.
You just dated your self Dave.

ive been thinking about a 904 swap, so im interested in seeing legit numbers here. any idea of ETA?
C'mon krs get with the times haha

Where's new 1/4 mile times krs? Have you been lately?

904- no overdrive, smaller internally than 727 but use same valve body as 727
999- same as 904 but has lock up torque converter and steel pinions and different first gear range, mostly in the trucks.
998- same as 999 but shorter tail shaft and mostly used in cars
a500/44rh- basically 904 with overdrive has lock-up and non-lock up versions use same valve body as a518/46rh but valve body doesn't interchange between lock-up and non lock-up versions ( there is a way to make them interchange but keeping this a simple explanation).

I'm going to throw this out there. The hp and tq could be the same or a touch lower at the rear wheels bc the 727 is not locked up and running a true 1 to 1 the converter will slip a few percent skewing the numbers. In theory less rotating mass and weight is good and a 727 will be faster on the track but may fall short on the dyno. I think the main factor will be the tq converter and how efficient it is.
Forged 408 12.10 @ 111mph under the knife again
Agreed the converter has a lot to do with it. The lockup was shut off for the dyno pull with the 46 re and the converters are the same diameter and roughly the same stall speed. So the converters are matched pretty close that it should only be a few numbers. There is no exact way to really test this. Both the track and the dyno are just a close gauge.
So I wanted to post the findings of our 727 - 46 re swap. Our first step was to get a baseline on the truck. We warmed the truck up and made three back to back hits. We found 335 RWHP to be the average of all 3 runs. After installing the 727 we rolled the truck back on to the dyno. Again we warmed it up and made 3 runs. We found an average of 371 RWHP. That was roughly an 11% gain in power.
That's a pretty decent gain in power. Think about this, on a truck that makes 600 RWHP that is a 66 hp gain at the tires. I can also say the truck feels a bit crisper than it did with the 46 in it. Driving down the road however with 3.92 gears and stock tire size 55MPH was 2,500 rpm and 60 MPH was an even 3000 RPM.
The swap was pretty straight forward. We did use an automatic valve body which I did not like. I would recommend using a manual valve body. We did have to make some adjustments with the kickdown arm on the trans to get the trans to shift correctly at low speed without over traveling the arm at WOT. The parts that are needed are as follows, a new driveshaft, 727 slip yolk, plug for speedo gear hole, one of Hi-potek's trans cross member with trans mount and a torque converter that is for a 727 but uses a 90 degree cover for the standard flex plate. Oh and don't forget a tune to shut off the CEL or a manual trans computer.
Very nice gains!

Good info, for track guys, it's WELL worth the effort, and I agree on the manual valve body.
