Thread: Truetrac failure?

Unfortunately looks like similar has happened to mine. Went to pull the axles to measure for disc conversion and could not pull drivers side axle. Pushed in a little but not enough to remove C-clip. I could see some of the mushrooming in the same area as your initial pics. Ran out of time to diagnose any further, will be looking into it further this weekend I hope.
Was running Lucas HD 85/140 dino since new, only about 2k miles on it, running ET Streets and not high power (270rwhp) but launching with clutch (M/T). Will try to get apart and update this weekend.

My axles always went in and out smoothly. Mine has about 30-35k miles.

Good info on future troubleshooting. Do you think its a common wear and tear issue with the true Trac vs stock rear end?

I'm wondering if maybe this info should go back to the manufacturer. Maybe a qc issue or a design thing.

Yes it should go back to the manufacturer, but for them to admit anything would mean potential liability and $$$$$$$$$.
Your problem isn't the problem. Your reaction is the problem.

I think it's basic wear but only because if the opening needed to get to the c clips. Others think there has been excessive side load. I tend to take on/off ramps at high speeds while under power.

Only the gears before and after the opening are worn. Pieces of metal probably went through them along with the oil passeges being blocked. I've been beating the crap out of it since putting it back together and it seems to be working just fine. I have a B&M cover coming Monday so I'll take a look at it then.

Still unsuccessful removing axle. Managed to loosen preload adjuster and now know axle is stuck in side gear of TruTrac. Until I can get it apart can't say what caused it but at this point believe I may have twisted the axle then when it didn't move in enough to remove C-clip I knocked it inwards with a hammer which likley wedged the splines int0 sleeve. Doubt I am going to have time to get back to it this weekend now
Glad to hear yours is back together and working!

Pulled the axles tonight. After probably 300 miles everything looks the same as I was expecting. It would have been better to wait longer but I got a new B&M cover that I wanted to put on.

Got mine apart finally and TruTrac was fine. Some minor galling in same areas as yours but not as bad. Ended up having to use my plasma cutter to cut C-clip into many little pieces to get it out since it would not slide inward due to the twist in axle.

So how many R/Ts running these TrueTracs are having this failure? Everyone?

Yes, old post. Some of the trucks on here are running the Truetrac and was hoping to get some feedback on reliability. My truck still has the stock rear-end and working well, but when it starts to slip I will consider the Truetrac.

700hp through a Truetrac and no problems...wonder why those other trucks had problems. Wrong lube?
