    Default voltaage issue

I'm driving along and my check gauges lights up and my voltage gauge drops to zero. Truck still runs and it doesn't effect lights or other functions. I turn truck off, than back on and the voltage gauge reads about 3/8 it fine like that for 5-10 min while driving than the check gauge light comes on and the voltage gauge drops again. But the truck still functions properly.

Anyone know what's going on? Alternator? Battery temp sensor? Pcm?

Battery is fairly new this year.

Sounds like an alternator or rather the built-in voltage regulator.

Confirm this with a multi-meter while watching the voltage on the battery before and after it acts up.

It will probably read 13.6-13.9 before it acts up then will drop to less than 13.0 maybe even 12.8 or so.

If I understand you correctly the CEL is coming on also. Have you tried retrieving the codes yets???
Your problem isn't the problem. Your reaction is the problem.

just had the EXACT same problem.. is there a squeeling that starts and stops when the voltage gauge drops?? if so, I had replaced the alternator, and tightend the serpentine belt (which was actually squealing)
