    Boost will fix that.

The biggest bang for you buck regarding massaging oem heads is blending the throat of the intake/exhaust ports where they meet at the back side of the seat. It's where the casting of the port meets the machined part behind the seat. Experts say 10/15 cfm can be picked up by blending that area along with blending casting flash along the ports. I did it to my old heads. Just DONT knick the seat with the grinder. Good luck.

I was going to do this, but the closest flow bench is atleast 2 hrs away, and I don't want to have uneven flow, especially with boost as I'll be pushing the limits of crappy 91 octane coop gas. My dad's friend has a seat grinder so I may redo them when I do the valves.

For me, even if a flow bench was across the street, that throat work wouldn't warrant the cost to have them checked.

Any pics? I was told by a certain other shop that's worked on alot of dakota's that opening up the pushrod pinch and porting the heads causes them to go turbulant sooner when you use 1.92 valves. Mind you I haven't spoken with shady dell or IMM yet.

I've read of a few, not saying he's golden boy, but he's never done me wrong, I do know some people fucked up his engines by not know what they were doing after they got it in their hands.

Shit hit the fan years ago and he disappeared when people started crawling out of the woodwork.

Things I couldn't have screwed up on my shortblock from him.

Front seal only partially pressed in and crooked.
Timing gears installed with small punch and bashed up pretty good.
Pistons looked like they were installed without a guide.
Cam bearing oil ports barely lined up and had high spots that were very noticeable when cam was spun by hand.
Oil pan gasket had been folded in half and he used a crap load of rtv to seal it.
My block also failed due to a sleeve that was installed but that could have been due to my power levels.

I know that, I bought the heads used and talked to the shop before I bought them, but the heads kick ass, killer deal for 1500.00 shipped.

His guy was supposedly really good - back when there was no R/T heads available (on national backorder) I had no other options. I had them get brand new stock castings, install hardened seats and bronze guides. Opened them to 2.02 at the same time with a nice port job. Supposedly they flowed out pretty good and hopefully wont crack.

Same shop Steve Udenburg took his alum R/T's too? I'm in Minneapolis often enough that I could just drop off a set of eddies there

R&R Performance in Spring Lake Park, MN? That's where my heads are at currently, and my dad and uncle have had a bunch of different Mopar heads worked on there in the past.

Otherwise, maybe Knowlton's Thunderheads in East Bethel, MN. I've heard good things about them as well.

So I got bored today and started scribing the heads for gasket matching, and I noticed the floor height on the heads are different than the intake.

Floor height is roughly 0.450 on the heads and 0.40 on the intake.

When I line up the gasket flush with the bottom of the intake a good chunk protrudes into the port, I scribed the ports side by side, the one on the left I matched the bottom of the gasket to the bottom of the intake. On the right I matched the floor of the port with the floor of the gasket. how should I be orientating the gasket to get the ports to line up correctly?
