If I replace the whole overdrive unit should I replace the overdrive piston too or would it be ok to reuse it ?

Personally I would try to make sure the PCM is even commanding overdrive and that you are getting voltage send to the od solenoid before you tear into the trans.

Have read about this elsewhere. This would be a very good idea even though it's not as common. Driving conditions have to be such before PCM lets O.D. engage.

Also, could explain why you don't have broken pieces or burnt fluid in the pan and still no overdrive.

Get a scanner and see if pcm is commanding od, if it is you probably have a blown lip seal on the piston.

I'm picking up another trans this weekend hopefully. If everything works out good with that trans, I'll be selling or trading this one
