Thread: tuning with mods

  1. #1

    Default tuning with mods

Hey boys just a quick question...I'm doing heads, cam, intake and the general top end....I was wondering the easiest way to tune....there are no tuners in the city I trust so I will have to drive a few hours to get a dyno tune. First will it be drive able with the mods and no tune. Second would it be easier to just do email tunes?

    Thanks for the help guys.

I was commenting that SCT is the only option for you unless you go standalone. Who to buy from??? Well I wouldnt take my word for it or anyone elses here, I can tell you mine drives seemless and while not the fastest it is a fun street truck, I am stuck with cali emissions and crappy fuel. If I wanted to be the fastest I would have just done that. You have to ask yourself the goals you have in mind for the truck. Remember, and this is IMO, fastest doesnt mean SHIT! I would consider the whole package with drivability, power and reliability as a complete package. Do yourself a favor, just research around the net before you buy, its PRECISELY what I do for everything and as for my SCT stuff I have had no issues using that method.

Id take my time and look at the good and bad if various venders/ tuners.

This includes going to multiple forums and actually researching.

At the end of the day, youll be the one paying them.

I have only heard of one tuner that has Dakota's running in the 10's and 11's.

And my truck has zero drivability issues, I could drive it to the track run low 11's all day and drive home.

What other tuner has a dakota in the low 11's or 10's

    Side note, do research!
But keep in mind that there are a few people (a certain click) on the web that are working hard to tarnish ones name just because they don't like him. I'm sure you will figure it out:

Hey thanks for the help guys...I'm a long time rt owner now and I'm hoping for low 12s. I was assuming it wouldn't be dribble without a tune...was just hoping. I will most likely end up with an sct of some kind.

    Thanks again guys.
I'm kinda surprised no one flamed at me for asking haha

Lol. We're here to help! Just remember there's 2 sides to every story , there may be a "certain CLIQUE" that's trying very hard to protect shoddy vendors too.

You should probably clarify that you meant trucks exclusively running jtec, and even then I know of a truck that was in the 10s with a zimmer flash and a little mechanical tomfoolery

That's where all the other tuners got their shit from back in the day. KFC used to send their PCM's into Dave to have him tune them, then Marty would take credit for doing it.

to answer the original question- I drove to phoenix and back on a hemifever canned tune after doing my heads/cam/headers/exhaust/intake swap, I was worried that everything I did would increase flow and make it run lean so I took it easy. After getting back and going to Westech for a dyno tune, we found out that seans tune was waaayyy too rich anyway even with the new parts. IMO, go with a dyno tune or Ryan and a datalogger

He just did an excellent job tuning my truck both times and my brothers 700 whp srt-10 ram

I think Ryan is probably a good tuner as well, but I never hear of any of his trucks running down the 1320

Also I have had a few conversations with pie about a top end kit but I'd like to get a slightly bigger cam then what he offered but not quite as bit as his larger option... Is it worth it or should I stick with his smaller cam?(sorry I know it's kind of off topic)
