Check out the muffler set up on this GTX with a hemi. It used (4 qty) 3” Cadillac mufflers. (Back in the day there were fewer performance options available.) This was back in the 1960’s. This was, at one time, the fastest street racer around the Detroit area. The car used to be parked outside a Sunoco gas station on the east side of Woodward Ave, between 14 mile and Lincoln roads in Birmingham. I lived about a mile away and one block from Woodward. I remember the car and looked it over in person on occasion. I must have been in my early to mid-teens at the time.

I have seen that before, probably 40 some years ago on big inch engines to keep them fairly quiet and still flow well.

4 mufflers ? I thought about redoing my exhaust all the way to the back by the roll pan, but put the spintechs all the way back there like my jeep, basically try to do equal length exhaust, how would that sound or work better?
The further back the exhaust/pipes go, the quieter it should be. There will be greater cfm flow loss, but as long as the system flows enough for your engine output, you should be okay. Been spending time trying to figure out the best routing for the headers to the side exhaust. I was originally going to use the Spintech 1 3/4" mid-length header, which would have been easier to set up, but my engine simulator does show a power increase with a tuned primary length header. I would also like to use a merge collector with a bullet, for increased velocity to help with scavenging. However, that collector is longer, and space is a concern. For less flow loss, a fender-well type header design seems to be the ticket. But then trying to get the optimum primary length can be problematic. If I route it under the frame, the flow path will cause some flow loss I assume, but that may allow me to use a longer primary tube length and provide more room in the wheel well and front tire. There will be some compromises in design just to make things fit. I have also been considering using a header modeling system to aid in primary tube routing with equal length, but that is an expensive proposition, for a one-off header. The supply chain is still pretty screwed up due to the covid fallout, and as a result, sales are way down, and I am reluctant to spend the coin. I could buy it to make the headers and sell it later if no longer needed. (I remember hearing some old politician stating that the economy is booming earlier this year, but I’m not sure what drugs he is on, because that is not the reality.)

I can also use the header modeling kit to help with the routing of the 3” side exhaust tubing to get a better idea before cutting any tube. The radius of those particular pieces of the modeling kit is 4". The 3" tubing radius I already have is 4.5", but it's close enough to see how things will time out.

Tack-welded the two sections together. Then used a hose clamp to tentatively position a third bend, since at this point, I’m not exactly sure where the header collector will be. This is as far as I can go until I get the engine in to figure out the header routing. I will do the driver’s side up until this point too.
(I’ve got some body work to do at a later date too.)

Made a couple of merge collector templates to better see the actual size for placement ideas. The left side is where the primary tubes enter. The right side is the merge cone size. The bottom one is tuned more toward my intended power band, but is longer, and may be more difficult to place. This is the longest I would use. If space turns out to be limited, the top one is the shortest collector I would use. The trade off is the shorter one has a more abrupt lead-in from the primary tubes, and could be a tad more restrictive, compared to the longer, more gradual lead-in of the longer collector. In addition, the shorter 13-degree cone will tune a little better for high rpm, while the longer 9-degree cone will tune more toward the mid-range. As always, compromises may be necessary.
