Thread: 900 CRANK HP 360 Turbo

  1. #1

Default 900 CRANK HP 360 Turbo

This is one of our local customer. Jim Havens (Turboed RT on DRTC). The truck features one of our front mounted turbo kits, and our boosted 360 short blocks. The internal components are as follows, Scat forged 3.58" stroke crank, Scat H beam rods, PIE (overpriced blower pistons), Hellfire rings, and one of our new custom cam grinds. The top end is a pair of ported Mopar Aluminum heads, and M1 Intake.
The turbos used in our kits are Comp Turbo units. The turbo in this application is a 7978. That is a 79mm compressor with a billet wheel and triple ceramic ball bearing center housing. The exhaust is a 78mm turbine with a .96AR on a T4 platform. For some that think you need T6 housings and these huge turbos to make power here is the proof. You just need the right combination to work well and a set of PIE blower pistons.
We incorporated our return style fuel system, 80# injectors, 2bar map and we tuned it with the SCT software. We are using our water to air setup with a bed mounted ice chest to keep those iat's under control. Iat's were 45 degrees during the pulls. We also are tuned on 112 octane Sunoco race fuel. There is a good bit more power to be had in the tune however we are limited by the H beam rods. I posted the run in speed since it is cleaner than RPM. The end of the run is 6200rpm and we have not crested yet.

This must be a chassis dyno and we're estimating flywheel HP. What gear were the pulls made in?

All pulls on a chassis dyno are made in 1:1 or in this case drive. Yes I was not able to edit the title. It should have read 900 Crank hp 360.

Yes it is a chassis dyno, and it is in drive with overdrive turned off.

No problem buddy. You may have to change that 10 second license plate to 9 second.

WOW! 22 lbs and it's not lifting the heads? I thought these motors were only good to 15 max.

Boost pressure does not lift the head. It is the pressure generated by the power produced in the cylinder. I don't have any issues with that on this build or any others we have built with this power. Use head studs, cometics, and I have a little different way of torqueing the heads down that helps load that stud better. Really it is only 20 lbs. It saw a little 1.5 lb spike for a split second.

The Scat and Eagle H Beam rods are rated to about 850 crank hp. The rod can actually fold over and fail.

Our blocks are prepped with billet main caps and are hard blocked. The block does not concern me to much. I wish we had some stronger rods.
