Figured I would put the edits at the top for updates as it makes for easier viewing.
UPDATE\ #1 (9/11/14): I spoke with Kayden from the National Auto Museum - they are down to give us a tour of the museum and a banquet venue or show n shine in their lot or whatever for a VERY reasonable rate. Its easy - she also has ins with hotels around and maybe summit racing for us. So one item can be crossed off for one of the days. More to follow.....
UPDATE #2 (9/19/14):
I talked with a mopar group called Battle Born Mopars and they might be game for having a tandem show n shine so basically get to see a lot of classic mopars.
Automuseum came back with very reasonable pricing to do the tour/buffet/prize giveaway venue.
Lady at auto museum has a contact at summit she is going to get to contact me regarding a visit to the distribution facility (while there check out retail store). Maybe do Show N Shine there as well.
The race track GM emailed me back and is supposed to call. They have a race June 6/7 so hopefully we can piggy back that event and get good racing rates. Also friday that week I think is $5.00 fridays so test and tune might be possible if you want to make the drive twice.
I found a local bbq place who will cater BBQ sandwiches/beans/side of choice for a very reasonable per person price for dinner at the hotel after the show n shine.
Got a trophy place giving me quotes on doing all the trophies.
I will gather up rest of hard costs and everything will be down to the penny on cost and what the meet fees will be.
Update#3 (9/23/13): I spoke with Ed GM from Top Gun Raceway in Fallon, NV. They have an event the first week in June 5-6-7 - we can jump on Sunday as a Tandem (he said thats the least amount of cars and get the most runs in) 9amish-3/4pm - Cost $30.00 each racer and $10.00 each spectator. They will have ambulance on hand and insurance covered, so no out of pocket expenses for us or the club.
****SIDE NOTE**** Saturday the race track has what he called a huge jackpot race......if people wanted to skip the SNS and go to that we would understand
Also they have a place called Need2Speed in Reno - its indoor cart racing, so we can have an electric powered auto cross there if you guys want. $23.00 for 14 laps
SOO that said if we choose to go with the option of no real life auto cross we can do this for $80-85.00 member or non member price with a $40.00 guest price to cover food/museum tour/track spectator costs. That is an all inclusive cost including trophies for winners of classes/shownshine. The club is not out a dime and I can solidify the museum and track at any time. The track will even add our event to their 2015 flyer.
Rooms I figured on Grand Sierra Resort as they have TONS of parking that is not in a parking garage - easy for trailer queens!!! 75 bux a night right now for those days on multiple sites.
Hey folks,
I have been talking with Kevin Peacock about getting something going in Reno for the 2015 meet.
Reno is a good spot along the I80 corridor which for those that dont know I80 runs dead in the middle of the USA across the entire country. It runs right into Reno. Hoping this would garner attention from WA, CO, CA, OR, UT, ID, AZ, NV, WY and maybe as far away as Durant, OK (kickboxing activity)
Initial feelers show the possibility of the following using a really late may or early june date. The west coast runs hot in the summer so most guys that I have been bouncing this off didnt want to go in the 100+ dessert heat. That time of year in Reno is good air Also college is over from what I can tell 3rd week in may just before memorial day. Memorial day would give people a free monday off (most anyway).
Obviously open to other dates if it helps others make it out. So far I have 10 yes votes just out of the people I have talked to - they would all show for a meet on the west coast.
So here goes the basic idea or run down.
Host hotel - we can do in Reno just about anywhere, there is a plethora - I dont suggest downtown as people trailering would have a nightmare there. But anything is a possibility.
Thursday - roll into town and check in to hotel of choice and get your meet registration goodies. Hit downtown for a cruise in the evening maybe.
Friday - In the AM visit the national auto museum - automuseum.org (I have an inquiry in now for group rates). They have a huge facility with some of the rarest cars in the world. Lots of the Jack Harrah collection (yes Harrah hotels guy).
Saturday - Summit racing distribution facility tour and show and shine in the parking lot
Sunday - 1/4 mile drags at top gun raceway (seeing if they have an event we can piggy back around that time). The only drag is it out in the desert about an hour away. Come back get cleaned up and do awards banquet.
Monday - roll out of town or stay and gamble or visit bunny ranch
I have some feelers in but wanted to get everyones take on it. I have some other ideas to make it interesting but wanted to get your take on the location and possible itinerary. There is lots of options for a good GTG here. I have also found a group called battle born mopars - big mopar club in reno - I would like to ask them if they are down for jumping on racing and making a mopar day at the track. https://www.facebook.com/BattleBornMopars Just lots of options rolling around my head - I will talk to everyone and work with Kevin Peacock closely to get this thing nailed down and put in a solid proposal if you guys think you may want to do something with it.
